Mounting 5231 box or not?
Stupidly, the trim ring on the 5231 has an opening to allow the cord to be external. This seems beyond stupid. So, how do you deal with a big hole in your otherwise water tight assembly? It seems like the cam could fill with water from that ridiculous hole. -

How to change from PAL to NTSC?
It's a personal choice. As a broadcast production guy it gives me pleasure. Also, I recall Andy saying this could be changed. The dropdown shows no NTSC option. -

Right, I did not port-forward any cams..... but I also did not do anything special to stop them form phoning home. as I recall. Should I just remove the gateway info or the DNS settings in the cam. I'll look for a cliff note on this. -

Sure, Ubiquity and other cam manufacturers update firmware all the time.... and its effortless to update. And, in many cases new features are added in addition to bug-fixes and security updates, etc...- MacFun

When I first setup my 5231 cam 2 years ago, I think I just used "Sync PC". I think this changed and it was off by 20 years! What settings do you use? Do you favor a certain name server? Thanks, R -

IPC-HDW5231R-ZE Firmware?
When I login to my 5231 and navigate to the Update tab, I see that there is an "Online Upgrade" option. When I click the "Manualy Check" button it says that my "System Version 2.622.0000000.18.R, Build Date: 2017-11-10" is the latest version. Shouldn't this indicate there is a newer version of... -

The procedure for Dahua firmware upgrades really sucks. Jumping through the hoops..... 1) locate the firmware and DL; 2) Log into cam GUI; 3) save config; 4) reboot cam; 5) install new firmware; 6) factory reset; 7) find your cam on a subnet you are not normally using; 8) update settings... -

Please clarify your junction box comments. Are you saying if I buy a certain junction box that it is compatible with the 5231 and the 5442 and with many other Dahua bullet cams? If so I like that Idea.... what junction box do I want? I currently have two 5231s but plan to add many more cameras... -
