Honestly Protect absolutely blows away Blue Iris on a phone (both UI3 and the BI app). The web interface is also amazing if you want to use it that way too. So my suggestion was for you to be able to try it and the point is you can use them both at the same time while you figure things out...

The searching "kid with blue backack riding a scooter" is what the AI Key does, you don't need that IMHO. The AI port can do the AI detections you're talking about (facial, LPR, person of interest, etc) but again you'd need one per 3rd party camera you want to add that function or you can just...

I agree and I think they are in the process of developing exactly what you're describing right now. The only part missing on 3rd party cameras IMHO is the ability to adjust the images and add AI capability (AI port is just a bit too clunky of a solution for me). The rest of Protect works...

You can see in my signature what cams I use (mostly EmpireTech turrets and 1 LPR cam) with it and no, I don't use any AI on Protect except with my G6 Instant and the doorbells (Reolink phone app). I record everything 24/7 anyway so no difference there at all for me. If I did want to do facial...

I ran Blue Iris for a bit and it was just way too cluncky and cumbersome for my liking. Yes there's millions of adjustments you can make with it but it reminds me of a Y2K era program with way too many issues and unnecessary complexities. The BI phone app was terrible by comparison and that...

Honestly I would spend a couple bucks and pick up a UNVR or UNVR Pro if I had that many Empire Tech and Topo cams and wanted to access them on a cell phone. Just add a drive and you can stream all your cams to both Blue Iris and Protect at the same time. I really think you'll be blown away by...

Best way IMHO to compare them is by the total size of the camera streams they can handle (you can see there's a big jump between the UNVR instant and the UNVR). EDIT (used incorrect bitrates initially.......these are corrected numbers)* UCK G2 Plus - 35-40Mb/s UNVR Instant - 45-50Mb/s UNVR -...

Yeah can't say I'm a huge fan of the kit using G5 2K cameras but if someone is just looking to have something up and still get full use of Protect (by using Ubiquiti cameras) and doesn't want to spend alot it's a option anyway. To me the UNVR Instant is more interesting as a stand alone device...

Looks like a pretty slick setup especially if you only need a few cameras (seems it can handle up to 6 of the 4K cameras which would be great for most folks). The UNVR and UNVR Pro still certainly have their place but this setup fills that lower price point (competing with "NVR in a box"...

No, I don't use them like that. I record every camera 24/7 so nothing ever gets missed. Then I have motion alerts on both doorbells which basically hits if anything aproaches a door to my house so I can look if I want to. Obviously other folks situations are different so you could add an AI...

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

Yeah it's just provides a slick way to access everything on my network all in a single device (Protect runs off my UNVR Pro). If you just want cameras and an NVR then obviously you can just stick to those and run Protect right off the NVR and be done with it. When you get alot of cameras and...

Experience with Unifi Protect and UNVR Pro

Remember the NVR needs to process all the incoming camera streams to record them which can be around 3-4MB/s each on a 4k camera (double that if using 8K). So yes the UCK G2 Plus has Protect but hardware wise it's really only good for recording like maybe 3-4 (4K) cameras so you need to upgrade...

You can view UniFi Protect on a laptop by navigating to unifi.ui.com in your web browser, or by accessing the local IP address of your UniFi console with the specific Protect port (e.g., https: / ip-address / protect/ ) if you are on the same local network. After logging in and selecting your...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

This is the part that’s got the most development going on right now. Short answer is both. The Ubiquiti G6 and AI Pro cameras do the AI processing right on the camera (AI Pro line definitely being the more capable of the two) similar in the way the Dahua 5442-S3 do processing onboard as well...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

You can run 3rd party cameras now on the Protect platform. So I can go in and set all the parameters on my Dahua 5442 S3 cameras then they stream 24/7 to the UNVR Pro (never misses any footage) and it’s been absolutely flawless. The only thing missing with 3rd party stuff is the AI (events...

I’m actually still waiting to install the security camera system at the bar. The owner has had a few issues come up personally which delayed the start so it sounds like that should likely happen later this summer. I have a bunch of things I want to try so I’ll try to post up on this as well when...

Just a quick update. Still loving the Unifi Protect system. So easy to use and absolutely hassle free (even my wife can use it which says alot). The Unifi G6 Instant camera for watching the dogs inside has been working great (and covers the back door entrance). I did test out the Protect...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Yeah 1000 grit is really fine for cutting paint, at least drop down to 600 for wet sanding and be careful not to burn through the edges. Then work your way back up to 1500 (600, 800, 1000, 1500) and finally buff it all shiny again. Definitely looking much better.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

They are very hard to find used and in good condition, especially fully set up with all that stuff. It definitely wouldn’t last long before someone snatched it up. Again that’s really a pro setup but makes the job so much easier/faster.

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Yes very likely it will be quite expensive to sand blast and powder coat it all again. If you have cars that get dinged, bumped, lightly scratched, etc then that buffer setup I linked to will make short work of that and this generator job too. Again there is an investment but the compound lasts...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Totally your call, just may be hard to get it evened out with it all assembled. Heck if it was apart you could even take it to be powder coated too (you can even change the color if you wanted). Anyway at the very least I would try the 3M compound (use a different pad for each compound grit) and...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Honestly the easiest way to do that would be to completely remove the sheet metal, sand/buff everything then reinstall it all again. I use a buffer like this and it makes quick work of paint cutting/buffing. https://www.amazon.com/Makita-9237C-7-Inch-Polisher-Sander/dp/B00LA6M64G Quick...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Great job on that and it was smart to replace the capacitor because they do wear out over time. Should keep everything running well in the future. I also like the meters you have mounted on both legs (I have one too but due to limited space it just shows voltage or frequency on one leg).
  24. M

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I agree. Most good generators have a way to go from bonded to unbonded (often just removing a screw internally) but I’ve never seen one from the factory switched that way.
  25. M

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

So the voltage didn’t drop as long as you kept it loaded? What was the range you saw? That frequency should help keep everything happy.
  26. M

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I have the same thing on my generator I built, very handy in case you need it to be portable or to use it on a jobsite. Does need a label to make sure you know which is bonded and which isn’t.
  27. M

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Great update and alot of testing and work on it for sure. I would definitely make some adjustments so that your frequency never falls below 60hz and also that voltage drop is a killer for any circuit boards so not sure if there’s an adjustment for voltage regulation on the generator head or not...

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

A few years ago the offerings weren’t nearly as good (G3, G4, G5 series) but the introduction of the AI Pro and G6 models have been quite a game changer. The 3rd party cameras still have a bit of an edge (ex only the expensive AI Pro has optical zoom) but that gap closed dramatically with their...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

I can’t really find anything on that specific unit other than this: GENERATOR • Marathon Electric® Brushless • 6 kW standby output • 120/240 VAC – 50/25A • +/-6% capacitor voltage regulation Too bad you’re not closer or I’d let you borrow my power meter to check it out. That’s the only real...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

The problem isn’t so much voltage regulation (higher voltage is always better than too low for circuit boards) as it is THD (how close the AC generated power sine wave is to being a perfect sine wave). Now smaller portable generators usually vary wildly on THD but these larger units are usually...
