While installing the 5231R-ZE turret for my mother-in-law, I guess the set screw was too loose and fell out half way during install. I was unable to find it but fortunately found a bolt that was the same thread and size.
Does anyone know where I can buy replacement set screws and what size?
Hi
I have a time overlap problem on a Dahua (amcrest) NVR which I just noticed. It seems to happen when the clock rolls over to 12AM. Basiaclly, the NVR has continuous recording but I noticed that when I click after 1AM, it jumps back to 12AM area. This tells me there is a time sync problem...
I may be interested.... couple of questions...
Is this thing loud? (the fan)
I have the 16P-4KS2 poe version which I'm using for my sister and MIL's house. That thing is loud just sitting on the desk. I've been wanting to upgrade my NVR but since mine is in the closet, I can't have it be loud.
Yes, both the cameras affected are east and west facing and could be under direct hot afternoon sun. The rest of the cameras are at different offsets, more SW and NE.
I have 5 fixed Dahua (Amcrest) 3MP bullet cams. They are the IP3M-943 which is a 3MP fixed cam. They are Dahua based and are about 2 years 6 months old.
Anyhow, 2 of them out of the 5 started to develop blurriness in the background. Anything beyond 20ft+ it gets blurry. License plates begin to...
I fried one of my cameras when rain got into the RJ45 connector and the pins shorted. It was my fault. I cannot imagine any electronic device to survive a surge of a bolt of lightning downstream. Even then, I think one would need fuses on each individual wire within the 8-wire CAT cable to...
Has anyone used a ceiling access panel to mount a ceiling camera?
I need to cut the drywall in the ceiling... but since I'm cutting a whole anyway to be able to fetch the rj45 cable through the wall, I might as well not patch it but install a door access panel. Then mount the camera on the door...
The extra megapixels are worth it to me. I had 3MP 3.6mm amcrest bullets that struggled to capture license plates of cars parked on street and coming into our shared motor driveway. Upgrading to 4MP Amcrest fixes and 8MP Dahua 1831 subsequently fixed the problem. I don’t have to sacrifice wide...
I know the spec sheet says up to 10TB capacity.
What happens if I stuck a 12TB capacity hard drive? Would it work? Would the NVR only write up to 10TB LBA range and not use the remaining 2TB ?
Seagate Skyhawk 3.5". I've got 4tb for my mom, 6tb myself, 6tb for my sister, and just got an 8tb for my in-law. All of them running along for more than 2 years.
I'm glad Dahua is starting to invest a bit more in their apps.
I used to have a lot of problems with push. The way the push notification works now is that the NVR or camera will send a tcp packet to apple's APN push server. You can run a packet tracer by setting the gateway of the NVR to your...
The nvr only pings the dns once I think, then stores that IP in memory, from what I can see in the tcpdump. I’ve been rebooting the nvr a few times.
The problem is, the RPI could ping it as well and store it and do a compare, but the RPI is not guaranteed to get the same fetched set of IP...
Ran into issues tonight which I do not know how to solve easily..
Basically, the NVR polls the dns server for time.nist.gov and gateway.push.apple.com for the IP address. The problem is, it is constantly changing, every few seconds, the IP fetched from the DNS can vary. Since iptables can allow...
You don't need junction box for 1831E if you have eaves or overhang. I've installed like 6 already. 2 of them used a junction box because there is no overhang, the others are underneath eaves and it works. Cable routes sideways out of the base cutout.
You are right man. This is more reason to put the NVR and IP cam all on a separate VLAN. For those who don't want to invest in one, the alternative is to just block the cams/router from reaching the WAN from their router.
This really irks me because the NVR firmware is trying to be smart like...
I have been playing with the app a bit over cellular data. It does appear to pull feeds and load cameras significantly faster (I've got 12 running) on an old iPhone 6S.
The un-used channel was already working. You just set-up favorites...and if you have 9 windows view, and 3 cameras, the 6 windows would not "Spin". This feature exists in Amcrest View Pro and iDMSS a while back. Is this what you are referring to?
I love the NEW version. Seems to run faster.
The alarm thing was a bit strange to figure out. They need to change the naming scheme. Alarm for physical alarm from camera. Then either change the alarm msg notification to either "Push Notification Alert" or something.
So... interesting thing I found out about the Dahua/Amcrest NVR.
So when I push the NVR to use gateway (as the RPI), I can see the NVR try to send a push notify to Apple. But first, it pings for the DNS gateway.push.apple.com to get the IP, which resolves to 17.188.134.26.2195. But here's the...
So SmartPSS desktop app is bugged out?
I use Amcrest's View Pro on Windows and it works beautifully for all Amcrest and Dahua cams. Never missed any recording. I actually did try Dahua's Smart PSS but I did not like it's interface as much as Amcrest's.
Sorry I should’ve clarified. It’s not an outdoor patio. It’s fully enclosed space that was an addition to the house. It’s a 12x12 ft space. There is no ac plumbing so it does and could get hot during summer but there is a roof over it.
For our house, the router gateway and nvr are in the master...
They are not THAT awful. I’ll post some 4K 8Mp pictures later on from a 1/1.8” camera. (I’m going to take a nap first). It is next to a starlight ptz 49225 and the 4K can hold its own.
I have older firmware than you (HDW-4831EM-ASE). I doubt that is the problem though.

Yeah, I'm looking at the ventiled Altelix box now. I already have a non-vented Altelix box for my PoE switch.
Now I wonder if these two cables are necessary to function for the NVR, if the NVR will complain that it isn't connected. Looks like they lead to the front panel but not sure what that...
Ordered a NVR5216-16P and this thing is massive and loud. My brother-in-law complains it is too loud in his computer room and definitely wouldnt' recommend to put it in bedroom.
I have another NVR5216 on order for my mother-in law and originally was going to put it in her bedroom because...
Can you try a Sandisk Extreme Pro SD card? Seriously these are the gold standard with high write intensive usage. Best used for dash cams and web cams.
