    Classic Shell > StartIsBack

I was a big fan of Start8 back in the Win8 days. It produced a perfect replica of the Win7 start menu without extra junk and it could turn off hot-corners while the desktop was active. It was also very stable, unlike other programs I tried.

    Surplus eBay Server?

Why not get an Optiplex small form factor and stick it on a rack-mounted shelf? They have room for an SSD and a 3.5" hard drive. It is best to record locally over SATA. If you must record to a external storage, I recommend getting a second NIC dedicated to to the NAS and use iSCSI so it appears...

How are you dealing with motion at night with just IR?

I use longer make times to filter out a lot of false alarms. If someone is actually on the property, they're going to be there a lot longer than the second that a passing bird might stay in frame.

Calling Android users! Hik-Connect push notifications not showing when locked [SOLVED]

This is definitely an Android issue. I'm having the same problem with notifications in general not appearing until I unlock the phone, then they come through immediately. I've Googled it and it seems to be a long-standing issue without any solutions once you check the settings as you have. It...

MAC addresses do not cross routers. But yes, if someone actually installed a RAT, all bets are off.

Will my ISP Changing my IP stop a current hack?

If someone is attacking your IP address, the attack will stop (against you, at least) when you change IP addresses. But if you have vulnerable devices accessible from the Internet, the bots will find you again before long.

Forwarding ports to IOT devices is akin to not getting vaccinated. Don't be "that guy".

'Do not' - trust your cable meter.

Simple testers aren't very reliable. Better ones will test for split pairs which is very important. Really good ones will test for all kinds of other stuff but are also very expensive. I have the second kind.

    Junction box mounting

    1) The holes don't line up. 2) This is a good choice, but they shouldn't be that expensive from @EMPIRETECANDY 3) These wall mount brackets assume the cable is coming through the wall you're mounting the bracket on. They don't mount to a junction box and don't have a threaded opening for...

Choppy video recording when both cameras enabled

No matter how many routers you have, they're all still sharing the same very limited spectrum. Keeping them all on separate channels (only use 1, 6, 11 to avoid overlap) may help but 2.4GHz wifi is a fundamentally overtaxed and broken means of communication.

Can I use H265 cameras with H265 nvr?

The camera compresses the video before sending it over the network. There's a setting in the camera's web UI to change the compression type. You can always set the camera to use h.264 if the NVR can't handle h.265.

Choppy video recording when both cameras enabled

I think its a wifi issue. 4MP is over 4x the bandwidth of 720p. Also, older devices don't play as nicely and can hose the whole WLAN. Upgrading to an AC router may help, but there's only so much bandwidth available at 2.4 GHz which is probably all the cameras support. This is why hard wiring is...

There's nothing unique about connecting an IP cam to a network. If you don't understand IP networking, then you might want to call in someone to help you at least get it connected to your LAN.

    Another New Guy

I have a stack of little CDs that came with the cameras but have never used them. Everything is done through the camera's web interface. Have you connected the camera to your network and reached it via browser? I believe Dahua's default IP address is 192.168.1.108. If your network is not...

    Obviously over my head

Following the same standard on each end, either 568A or 568B, is not the same as simply putting the wires in the same order of your choosing on each end. The standards put specific wires in specific position for a good reason.

    Obviously over my head

As long as you pick one standard and stick to it, you can use either but 568B is the more commonly used one in the US. You'll also want some way to record the cameras, either an NVR or a PC with Blue Iris. You may also want to stick an SD card in each camera as a backup in case your recorder...

Do you turn off camera time overlay?

I use direct to disk. Even if I didn't, I'd still prefer to have the label and time embedded in the video so it's there even when I'm not viewing them through BI. I also record motion events to the cameras SD cards and want the time there. I also feel like embedding the time in the video stream...
