YES, it's overkill... can I tell the SD6AL830V PTZ to follow people?

On a more relevant note... How does the Dahua 4K PTZ offering compare to the Hikvision 4PTZ (which is twice the price)? I notice that the physical size of the sensor on both is quite small. Would I be better off with 3MP models (sensor size=night performance). Yes, I know that PTZ is a...

YES, it's overkill... can I tell the SD6AL830V PTZ to follow people?

You couldn't be more correct about this. Or at least I hope so. People tend to be much more concerned with this stuff when the government goes it. Lots are all up in arms about how the NSA spies on US citizens (and rightfully so). What is less visible is the incredible number of license...

Review-I'll be the guinea pig for the new SD59225U-HNI PTZ.

Ubiquiti is my new favorite on networking gear. And I've got access to Juniper and HP at insanely cheap prices through a huge client of ours (giant company that buys in huge volume). They offered to barter some stuff with us because they are happy with the work we've done. Ubiquti takes the...

New invention idea for Spider webs near external IP Cameras

Talstar-P. It's a residual product that the pro exterminators use. This is by far the most realistic solution to spiders and IR. https://www.amazon.com/Talstar-Multi-Control-Insecticide-ounce/dp/B00409QKRY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1477314286&sr=8-1&keywords=talstar+p No spider webs for 8 weeks...

POS Arrested and another one going down

RAB lighting is the way to go for motion detection. Expensive, but worth it. Defiant is junk. They false alarm a lot. Within two years, the motion sensor itself totally craps out, generally leaving the light on all the time.

Which Style Camera for Insect Infested Louisiana, usa ? Bullet, Turret, or Dome ?

Re: Which Style Camera for Insect Infested Louisiana, usa ? Bullet, Turret, or Dome Higher end stuff that does well in low light w/o IR (e.g. Axis and Mobotix) solves the insect problem. You can also get long lasting commercial insecticide called Talstar-P from Amazon. Use a pump sprayer to...

    Router for wireless cameras

They absolutely are crooks. I rented a modem from Comcast because they were on site and would not do the install without a modem. My own came two days later and I returned the modem to Comcast and received a receipt. Two years later, I'm going through the minutiae on my bill and discover...

Anyone mount equipment in server cabinet for residential installs?

Absolutely. Only an amateur does it any other way. The right way to do a job and have it look clean is with a rack. Just be aware that the smaller units do not have a hinge to facilitate swing away from the wall. You need to go to the 12 U for that. I know that it can look like overkill, but...

    Why turrets instead of bullets?

Yes it will. But some Talstar P concentrate and a good pump sprayer from Amazon. Works residually for months. Your wasp problems will be over. Cuts down on spider problems substantially as well. Are the turrets better than bullet style cameras (e.g. 2032) with regard to spider webs.

How Low Should I Mount on Entrance

You got some good info. In general, facial recognition is best accomplished at ground level, while protection against vandalism is best done at about 15 feet off the ground. I tend to use a combination of the two in my commercial applications.

    Hikvision expert motion detect settings

Very interested in this as well. As I've noted on previous threads, I'd much rather see Hik pursue more accurate motion detection (with less false positives) than higher resolution and/or night performance at this point. Looks like they are definitely working on it.

Improving video quality from DS-2CD2332-I (video of actual thief embedded)

Don't be fast to throw stones at the victim calling him gullible. As an experienced cop, even I got burned a few years ago. Brand new car, lock button was on the opposite side of my old car on the remote. It took a while to train myself to push the button on the other side.

Improving video quality from DS-2CD2332-I (video of actual thief embedded)

I have two comments from my experience as a police detective. 1. First and foremost, your video clarity is without question enough for the police to ID this guy. They're not going to be simply picking someone out of random. A vast majority of crimes are committed by the same set of ass holes...

Sensor size and why dont they use bigger ones.

With respect, just until someone else comes along and eats their lunch. Others (like Mobotix) are being forced to adapt or go the way of the dodo. As soon as one manufacturer makes a big jump in low light performance and/or image quality, the others will be forced to follow. Eventually someone...

Huisun IP PTZ Camera, with Hikvision Protocols

Great find, looking forward to grabbing one myself. I didn't know that PTZ was possible via PoE. Any info on the Ethernet jack? Is there a place inside the camera to make the connection, or is it standard Hik with an exposed pigtail set of wires and a big, weatherproof RJ45 female jack? If...

    Why I have cameras

This product seems interesting. How many cameras are you running, and how fast is your PC? I haven't dealt with computer based products much, as they all appear to be CPU intensive. My other issue with PC based stuff is that if the facility is breached, chances are, the perps will carry the...

    Why I have cameras

Thanks for the replies with regard to motion and false positives. I considered PIR at one point, but it strikes me as cost prohibitive for larger installs. The decent outdoor sensors appear to run $150+. Add in the cost and difficulty of running 12V power to everything, and I'd rather spend...

Can I mount these cameras on trees?

Yes, it would be doable. Major issue is that the cabling has to run up the tree from the ground. Unless you put it inside some type of conduit, your system is going to be very easy to sabotage from ground level.

    Why I have cameras

Good stuff... Any news with regard to the police catching this guy? Most scum bags that do stuff like this are very well known to the police. The second I brought the video into the station, they all recognized the perp instantly. With regard to e-mail notifications... What cameras/setup do...

    2MP vs 4MP?

This man is correct. Instead of increased resolution (e.g. 4K), what we really need is: 1. Better night performance; and 2. More accurate pixel based motion detection (e.g. not triggering an event for every moth that flies by).

    AXIS thermal network cameras

Thermal is an absolutely awesome technology. Tons of game changing applications, even in the security field--just not for CCTV. With regard to CCTV, the absolute best thermal imagers out there right now on the commercial market are 640 x 480. We all know what evidentiary value most 640 x 480...

Critique my home security hardware choices! 6 PoE Cams, 1 NVR

Excellent thread. lippstuh has gotten some good info. My only addition is to suggest an Asus AC-68U. ddWRT flashes to it pretty easily, although I have yet to do it, as I am pretty impressed with the stock firmware. Does the 2332 turret have the firmware option to shut off the IR...

    New product release cycle?

Thanks for asking this question--I was also wondering the same thing. With regard to new products, I'd like to see more intelligent onboard pixel based motion detection and bigger/higher quality sensors. I'd rather have both of those (especially reliable motion detection without false...

What style drywall anchors are best?

E-Z Ancor "Stud Solver." It's the one DaveP posted in METAL. The come in 40 and 50LB ratings. Available on the shelf at your local Lowe's. Home Depot has a similar product by another brand, but I don't like it as much. Avoid plastic ones as they can snap when you screw them in.

Possible to Disable Built In IR on Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I 3MP?

I'm at my wits end with regard to dealing with moths, spiders and other insects being attracted to the built in IR on my Hikvisions. Built in IR seems to be an absolute disaster outdoors. The summer was horrible with regard to bugs, and despite the cold, they are still not 100% gone. I've found...

Bosch Dinion Starlight 8000 MP Review

Great review, thanks for posting. What I'm more interested in seeing trickle down to the cheaper cameras is the accurate motion detection he referred to. As great as my Hikvisions are, the motion detection that is set off by every moth flying by is completely unsatisfactory. While I'd rather...

How to Save Password in Browser for Hikvision NVR?
