Lewic,
Thanks for the reply.
Model: LTN8716K-P16
Firmware Version: V4.21.005 build 191210
It shipped with this firmware, which is a later version than the one LTS shows as current (LTS downloads shows NVRK_V3.4.96_180912 as latest).
Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with LTS (rebranded Hikvision) NVRs refusing to function without a static IP.
LTS has their own version of SADP called Platinum portal. The NVR works just fine when the portal is used to set a static IP. If I try to set it to DHCP (either via the...
Can't disagree with your comments. I have the 210V and we have installed several for others.
Pros: easy and reliable setup. Solid app with no port forwarding
Cons: poor video quality. 16x9 aspect ratio better suited to home entertainment than security video
Video quality looks excellent. Not sure if they have WDR, but it sure looks like it.
Also liking the taller aspect ratio. I have long maintained that 16 x 9, while fantastic for entertainment, is horrible for security video applications.
They may or may not be good for video. But they do a boatload to deter crime.
From the police perspective, you see things differently. A common theme at property crime scenes is poor night lighting. While always-on floods are preferable, it's often not feasible in residential areas (neighbors...
Could not agree more.
You shouldn't be disappointed. The concept of "patrol" is useless.
With regard to relativity, the only real purpose for PTZ at a whole is when the unit is being actively operated by a live person who is inspecting a particular threat.
Remember one thing: when you are...
Agree 100%. You can tell very little from the spec sheet. Only way these products can be fully evaluated is when they appear in the wild.
The Hik demos from the new full color super low light stuff look very impressive. I'm eagerly anticipating getting my hands on one of the models I mentioned...
Yes. The question is why you would want it.
I've spent quite a bit of time as a police detective in a major US metropolitan area. Been around lots of bad guys. They are overwhelmingly creatures of opportunity.
Well-lit areas are a substantial deterrent.
The answer is white light. Either...
In July, the Q3/Q4 LTS catalog introduced a new rebranded Hik series, Color247. These cameras appear to have sensors that are far more capable in low light in situations without IR being turned on.
Page 14 of the catalog shows four models, including the CMIP 3C42W-M (turrets are my preferred...
Not a fan of 4K for most security applications. The aspect ratio simply doesn't work well. Used some 4K Hikvision stuff on a very big project (huge client w/ 100 locations) and regretted it. The 16:9 stuff limits your view a lot.
Like their 6MP stuff much better due to the aspect ratio. We...
One thing that I'm consistently told is that while Asia is an excellent place to manufacture circuits, it is on the other side of the world from Silicon Valley, where the world's software development talent lies. Or at least that's the excuse I was given by Mobotix when we were a big installer...
As others have said, lower MP tends to equal better night performance for a given physical sensor side.
That said, having spent a good deal of time as a police detective in a major metropolitan area, I have a different perspective than most with regard to low light performance.
If any modern...
Like many other members here, I am a big fan of Hikvision IP cameras. Image quality is outstanding, and the price is right.
The one Achilles' heel, however, is Hangzhou's continued reliance on a long-outdated plugin to access the company's products via web browser.
NPAPI was created in 1995...
Not strange at all.
Low light performance is largely a function of the ratio of physical sensor size to megapixel resolution. The lower the resolution, the more light can be captured per megapixel.
This is actually very relevant (and correct).
Customs/taxation issues aside, the First Sale Doctrine decision is incredibly important to what all of us do as consumers. A lot of companies have tried to exert insane control over their items, going as far as to try to ban the selling of used...
Has anyone seen one of the new iDS-9632NXI-I8/16S Deep in Mind (aka deep learning) NVRs in the wild?
Seems like an interesting concept (motion detection without false alarms, facial recognition, etc). Sort of weak that it only supports these functions on 16 of 32 channels.
Still, looks...
In general, motion detection with IP cams tends to false positive (e.g. record when there is no actual intruder) vs. false negative (miss things). For the most part, the field "is not there yet" with regard to accurate motion detection with no false alarms. I suspect that we will get there in 18...
Smart move. VERY smart.
From the law enforcement perspective, I cannot for the life of me understand why so many people depend on IR. I'm guessing lots of people who talk cams have never testified in court in support of video footage. I have. In general, the perp's defense attorney will...
Mobotix T25 is also an option, but big $$$. They also sell a PoE screen/intercom until called the MxDisplay, which in addition to ringing like a doorbell (your choice of ring), allows you to talk to the person on the other side without opening the door. It is also sold as a door station...
This is correct. You are playing with fire trying to get plates with your current 4mm. You may be able to get them from some angles in good lighting conditions. But absent that, your reliability is suspect now. Go to 2.8 and you are going to be hosed.
If you want to do it right, take bp2008's...
You answered your own question. Moving parts=potential for failure. Chinese quality control takes it to another level.
Honestly, I don't think that these have been out long enough for anyone to be able to tell you from experience. What I can say is that the PTZ stuff from even the super high...
All of things brings me to a really good point. I love Hikvision cameras and the various rebrands (etc). Incredible, for both video quality and bang for the buck.
That said, they need to get their ass in gear and redesign how web access is done, pronto. It has long been known that they way that...
I actually like the setup a LOT. Shows a lot of knowledge.
One question: how high off the ground will the cams be? 3 and 4 are going to capture a lot of the same stuff, or the tops of heads if they are at my preferred mounting height of 14'+.
Mobotix stuff is fantastic for this purpose. Not chap, and they have their other issues.
We do a lot of Hik/LTS stuff. But when two way audio is needed, Mobotix is the way to go.
We have a client that is the absolute opposite. Palo Alto Next Generation firewalls at every facility. They really aren't very worried about holes in NVRs or cams.
All remote access is done via VPN, nor ports. And the firewall is on top of any strange traffic immediately. Palo Alto stuff is...
Love Hik based products.
But software companies are rapidly removing NPAPI support from browsers, citing security risks. In police work, we call this a clue.
Hik has great video quality, but the kludgy access/playback over browsers is one of the worst aspects of their products. They need to...
Thanks for sharing.
If I were the guy in the yogurt case, I would have hired a lawyer just because of that letter. My lawyer would have written a letter back telling them that I host a lot of parties, and that the alcohol purchases can easily be explained. Moreover, if you don't offer a fair...
