2.5 vs 1 gbit Ethernet nic

I'm looking into adding a second nic to connect my blueiris PC to my router. Any advantage to having 2.5 gb vs 1 gbit? The router is 2.5gbit, but I'm not sure those speeds help at all in this situation.

do you think 115W poe power budget is okay for 14 cameras? 13 5442 ZE and 1 doorbell cam. Alternatively I can do 183W power budget, but the power supply is larger and may be harder to get into my rack

Any meaningful difference between an i7-8700 vs i5-8500 in terms of performance/energy usage for a BI computer with 14 cameras?

    Camera power cycle frequency

Thanks. I'll just go with dial nic and unmanaged. Unmanaged also has lower power consumption, which is nice for a device running 24/7

    Using all 5442-ZE

Is there any advantage to the 5442 vs 5442-ZE other than lower price? Seems like going varifocal gives you more flexibility.

    Camera power cycle frequency

How often do you have to power cycle cameras due to hangups, freezing etc? I'm trying to decide if its worth getting a switch with a management interface that would let me toggle POE power to reset cameras vs an unmanaged one that would require unplugging/replugging

    Using all 5442-ZE

I'm considering using all varifical 5442-ZE cameras for a residential property. I don't need to zoom in on anything more than 30 feet. Cameras are all either 7foot high for facial identification or higher as overview cams. Is this at all reasonable? I also don't want any bullet cameras or PTZ

    100mbit vs gigabit switch

Price difference is negligible. Power consumption on the 100mbit switch w 2 gigabit uplink ports was about 5W less

    100mbit vs gigabit switch

I'm planning on running a setup with 14 cameras and one PC running Blue Iris all connected to an unmanaged switch. Any advantage to using a switch with all gigabit ports vs a switch that has mostly 100mbit ports and two gigabit uplink ports?

Garage camera placement - walls closing soon

Symmetry with what? I could copy whatever I do on one side of the garage with the other side. Or do you just mean you would match the sides? I'm trying to get an understanding for why above the coach light might be better. I thought a lower height (yellow dot) would be better to get identify...

Garage camera placement - walls closing soon

Thanks. Few questions: 1. You would go higher with the camera at the orange arrow you drew vs lower at the yellow dot? In the photo, for reference, you can see green wire hanging down from the soffit at the top right. Another camera will go there, but probably too high to get identify images...

Garage camera placement - walls closing soon

Thanks. Do you see issues with having a light bulb from a nearby exterior light causing camera image quality problems?

Garage camera placement - walls closing soon

I posted previously about camera placement near a 3-car garage. It was suggested to add cameras to at the outside corners at the garage header (labeled 1 and 2 in red in the photos below). It turns out, this won't be structurally possible. Any alternative locations? I was thinking about putting...

    Dual NIC setup switch type

Do you need to first plug the camera into a device with the DHCP server so you can get into it to change the IP settings?

    Dual NIC setup switch type

Thanks. So it looks like I would just setup the IPs manually on the second NIC and the cameras instead of having a DHCP server handing out IP addresses.

    Dual NIC setup switch type

I'm looking into setting up my blue iris PC with dual NIC. Does the switch that the IP cameras and blue iris PC connect to need to be a managed switch? Or would unmanaged work?

    Camera locations for walkout basement

I'm planning on adding some cameras about 6 feet off the ground to the back of our house. Currently we have wiring for 2 cameras that are about 20 feet up (labeled 1 and 2 in red). I was thinking about adding two cameras at the yellow dots to get identify information. Looking for feedback on...

    Camera Location by Garage

Yes they are drywalling the garage. I was planning on doing 2 at the garage headers at the ends. It's a 3 car garage so they will be fairly far apart. I also have two in the soffit. One towards the back end of the garage and one at the very front edge.

    Camera Location by Garage

I'm looking to add two cameras to the right and left of a three car garage setup. Ideally, I would like to place these about 6 feet off the ground. There are two outdoor coach lights (drawn in red below) that pose a problem. Would you put the cameras below the coach lights (indicated by the...

    Camera Installation Location Feedback

Thanks. Based on reading older posts, looks like active deterrence isn't great. Cameras 2, 6, and 8 I can lower to 6 feet and use the fixed 2.8 5442. This gives 3 sides of the house with something that can identify I can add another camera by Camera 4 that is 6 feet off the ground. Now 4 sides...

    Camera Installation Location Feedback

Living in the home. Main goal is to have a system that will notify me if something may be happening, so I can then check and call police if necessary. Also be able to Identify anyone coming through the front door, back door, or up the driveway.

    Camera Installation Location Feedback

Just trying to think of a way to get the most use out of Cameras 3, 4, 5, and 7. I'll be able to lower Camera 2, 6, and 8. This should give me identify info for anyone coming through the front door, backdoor, and up the driveway. I saw the T5241H-AS-PV on the cliffnotes but looks like it...

    Camera Installation Location Feedback

Makes sense. The Ri22o post is very helpful. For Cameras 3, 4, 5, and 7, do you have any recommendations for a camera that would be good for overview, active deterrence, and also AI detection to send a push notification? This way I would forego IDENTIFY, but gain some other helpful features

    Camera Installation Location Feedback

Thanks. I've accepted I won't have a perfect system. In terms of IDENTIFY, ideally I would be identify someone breaking in. I don't need to IDENTIFY at long distances. The locations for these would be Cameras 1, 2, 6, and 8. These cameras are as low as I can get them (~10 feet above ground)...
