    Unable to connect on WAN

I had trouble with ZT where I had to keep logging into my online account and reauthorizing the machine. It would work for a while then stop again and I’d have to repeat the process. Eventually I got tired of it and switched over to another VPN.

Blue Iris not retaining IP address after power loss

No worries, I just misunderstood. I think it was post #17 that threw me off where you mentioned accessing the cameras and the controller was out of the picture. Makes perfect sense how you have it configured because it would be a pain to pull off all that VLAN routing without it. Sounds like...

Blue Iris not retaining IP address after power loss

I appreciate the response. The BI setting obviously is network related (or we’d all have this problem) but my actual question was why would some folks have issues and others not? What circumstances or situations create this issue? We already know what the fix is but none of those threads...

Blue Iris not retaining IP address after power loss

Mike is there a reason why not having that box checked caused a problem in this case? I don’t have it checked at all and using Ubiquiti equipment I never had any issues like that. Is this something specific to TP-link equipment? I know Sonnie mentioned that these cameras weren’t on the Omada...

Blue Iris not retaining IP address after power loss

To me the test would be to take a camera out of the controller and see how it works during a power failure situation. If you get the same issue, then it's not the controller (likely a BI config issue) but if it does work on that camera while others have issues then it's likely the controller...

Blue Iris not retaining IP address after power loss

That’s what I was thinking too but wasn’t sure if the cameras were also left at the original IP and the controller was having to renegotiate all the IPs at startup. If not then I don’t know how you would shut that situation down (assuming Mike’s suggestion didn’t work nor did setting static IPs...

Blue Iris not retaining IP address after power loss

Sounds like the BI machine is coming online faster than the controller can negotiate the cameras and is causing issues. So I would unplug one of your cameras, plug it into just a stand alone dumb switch, then plug a PC/laptop into the switch and login to the camera directly. If the camera is...

Blue Iris not retaining IP address after power loss

Every device should have a static IP (cameras, NICs, switches, router, controller, etc) and those static addresses should all be set on each of the devices not in the controller. This ensures anytime you lose power the device requests the same IP again before it reconnects to your network. The...

Compact indoor wall camera powered from lighting circuit?

If it’s too hard to run ethernet then I would try to get some way to simplify things. Seems like dealing with the light is a headache so I would just convert to an outlet then use this to get your data over to the BI PC. Then again you can use either wifi or hardwired, whatever you prefer...

Compact indoor wall camera powered from lighting circuit?

If you’re already running BI, why not just run a POE cable right to that location so you don’t have any limitations on what cameras you can use at all?

    Indoor Camera Recommendation

Are there any other higher end cameras I should be looking at for indoor use? Is there an equivalent to the 5442 but designed for indoors (ie is there a gold standard indoor cam)?

I was looking at the Amcrest PRO HD but I know there’s other good ones out there too. What are other folks using inside with Blue Iris?

    Indoor Camera Recommendation

Now that I've got my outdoor camera situation well on the way (work in progress anyway), I have one door in the back that's very hard to get a camera on outside. Also this is in our basement entrance where my dog sleeps during the day so I'd like to have an indoor camera that could see what my...

WTS Bosch MIC612 36x Infrared (thermal) Dual Sensor Military-grade PTZ Security Camera

I was thinking about it but I don't even know if they would let this equipment out of the US since it had DHS all over it. Very nice cameras though!

HDW3849H-AS-PV vs T5442TM-AS for longer distance

This is why most folks sacrifice a bit on the performance and go with the ZE for a general purpose camera. The Z4E is exceptional in the right circumstances though.

New Reolink Wired POE Doorbell Cam ?

Isn't the doorbell being pushed also an ONVIF event in BI which can give you a push notification? Seems like it's covered both ways.....only thing missing in BI vs Reolink app is the 2-way audio (which could get added later). I'm with Tony, very happy with this doorbell in BI, works great.

Restarting cameras causes Blue Iris to pick up factory IP address?

On each camera you should have a static IP set (I put info below based on your other thread). IP address: 10.11.12.xxx (unique for each camera, make sure you don't have any conflicts with other devices) Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 10.11.12.xxx (this should be the same as your added...

    Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Wow, that’s a really deep well. Ours is around 180ft and we have a large pressure tank but no separate holding tank at all. Forget the wiring, drilling that thing must have cost a fortune since they charge by the foot.

Setting up VPN/VLAN and Dual NIC

Yes exactly, there was no loops in the design I laid out on purpose so that it would all play nicely according to STP. According to the OP there is a very low probability of someone plugging into any of these ports at the pole (although the switch should still be physically secured). It seems...

Setting up VPN/VLAN and Dual NIC

I think alot of this network limitation stuff is getting thrown around without really understanding how it applies. Again the big issue here isn’t using STP (or RSTP or MSTP) even with tons of daisy chained switches, the problem is looping or multiple paths to the same place. If you eliminate...

Setting up VPN/VLAN and Dual NIC

Ok now I understand why you kept mentioning that. That limit is on legacy STP stuff, the limits on modern RSTP using VLANs is way higher (ie in this situation it’s literally irrelevant). The only thing you need to be careful of is creating too many redundant loops and also limiting devices to...

New Reolink Wired POE Doorbell Cam ?

I think you missed the fact most of us are using this POE Reolink doorbell with Blue Iris (not their app). POE (hardwired) is definitely the best connection you can get to any security device (consistent, prevents jamming, won’t clog up your APs, etc). Wifi is certainly acceptable in a retrofit...

Setting up VPN/VLAN and Dual NIC

Yes exactly and the reason for that is because the IPs are handled by the BI PC’s NIC card and not the router. The router has no idea that other network even exists and for good reason (you don’t want that camera network to ever even get back to the gateway).

Setting up VPN/VLAN and Dual NIC

A managed switch simply looks at the tags on the data as they come and go from the switch and the VLAN port tagging provide the rules it follows in use. The only time the gateway is involved is when it’s handing out an IP for a device or if you’re assigning certain VLANs to certain ports on the...
