Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

All else equal, it's just optical physics that larger sensor size will result in less depth of field. Here's a DOF calculator to show that. Ditto that @steve1225 is super knowledge (sign me up for "his" Ultra!) and has some great suggestions (ditto others) so yea, I agree that it would be good...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Would you agree that this is true across the zoom range? Specifically if the ZE is at (about) the same FOV as the 3.6mm AS?

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

LOL that I'm going to wait a bit before ordering to see the reviews ... and make sure I order the right model! ;-)

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Submit some image samples and request that they run it through the AI models so it can be in the next firmware upgrade ... ;-) P.S. GREAT info @steve1225 you are posting - thanks!

    2025 EmpireTech Product Release

LOL did anyone else notice in the PDF the MOST IMPORTANT new feature! ;-) "The new 5 series can support the detection of animals such as cattle, sheep, horses, deer, bears, birds, cats, and dogs, giraffes, elephants, monkeys, lions and tigers." It would be quite impressive to detect any of...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

That's a nice feature ... since it's sometimes tricky to get Dome cameras to point exactly where you want it ... and then when you put the Dome over, there is some slight distortion that changes the FOV. Plus then you don't have to get up on the ladder and juggle taking the dome off/on, look...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

YES @steve1225, I find your posting of Dauhu info interesting - thanks for doing. And ditto the "real benchmarks/comparisons" from the forum users.

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I'm assuming @steve1225 those videos were taken/uploaded with similar parameters ... the left side looks over-sharpened, but maybe the limits of the 54IR that the 54PRO has improved on? I like that "fence" on the right side as I can use it to try to assess acuity over distance. Was is exactly...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Back from my two week trip and pinging this thread as doesn't appear to be significant developments (?) in terms of performance, firmware, availability, etc. P.S. That's a cool de-icing demo @EMPIRETECANDY

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

LOL ... but did the animal detection not only flag this, but correctly identify it was a Bear?!? ;-)

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Thanks for the insights @steve1225 ... as I hoping you would chime in with your knowledgeable input. Would love to get your expert opinion on this comment of mine: "But what the heck is going on with the smeared grass in the foreground (ditto the tree branches that have some light on them) of...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I took a quick look at the videos (LOL an apple fell from the tree!) and the 59ZE looks a LOT better than the 54ZE to me ... albeit I can I see what @jmcu was talking about how the 54ZE can be sharper. Thanks a bunch @duplo for including some images - since I can easily download and flip...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Yes, the S3 is very nice (especially at the price point) and I did not mean to imply otherwise ... plus low-light testing is only one aspect.

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

In case you missed my edit update @steve1225: I would suggest that for low-light testing, this forum would benefit if people used those SAME standard parameters across cameras to allow easy comparison - the "Steve1225 low-light test!" Which sounds like full manual, 1/120s Shutter (1/100s...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Based on @steve1225's (always) informative followup, it sounds like that same parameters (1/120 Shutter, 50 Gain, and 100 Iris with 30 2D/3D NR) were used on all camera in the first 20 seconds of this video As I said, "HOLY CRAP, the 54PRO-AS just CRUSHES the beloved T54IR-Z3-S3" So that's why...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Great tests @jmcu ... and LOL that you even took my suggestion to "dress" up with colored shirts and Crocs ... plus a cat - well done! ;-) I started watching the first video and froze it right away at the start to look at the parameters - which were 8.3ms (1/120s), 50 Gain, and 100 Iris with...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Ditto what @steve1225 said that if you have time @jmcu, would be great to see some faster shutter speed footage to "push" the lens/cameras. As he also pointed out, dial in some gain (which I don't know enough about the Dahua world)... but similar to camera testing, bump the (basically) ISO up...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Great footage @jmcu ... just to be clear, was the gain (ISO) "about" the same on all of them? At a QUICK glance, the overall exposure level seems about the same on all of them ... but looks like some "boost" in the shadows especially for the IPC-54PRO-AS. I think (?) I saw some better dynamic...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Holy crap that's awesome. Waiting for it to get dark ... ;-) P.S. Hopefully camera settings are "similar"?

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

BTW, did anyone else notice the deer running in the background of @jmcu's video ... ;-)

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Thanks for sharing the videos @jmcu ... super-cool of you to share what you are seeing ... as I know it takes a bit of effort to package it all up - ditto @EMPIRETECANDY for your commentary. We are all waiting for the "Money Shot" (do NOT look that up in the slang dictionary! ;-) which as I...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I LIKE that can-do attitude!!! ;-) Ditto what @steve1225 said about putting the T54IR in the mix since "Everyone knows this model and know what is performance at night..."
  24. A

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Woooo ... @jmcu has been holding out ... but delivers the goods! ;-) Would love to see a side-by-side comparison of the all three camera at night, NO illumination and full color (i.e. not IR), using similar params. I.e. lets see what the difference is in lens/sensors.

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Great info @steve1225! While "Min illumination" seems to be a bit of a loosy-goosy metric, if "measured" the same way, I'm surprised that F/1.8 -> F/1.2 (and F/1.6->F/1.0) didn't provide more of in improvement (0.007->0.006) as that is more than a full-stop of light to the sensor ... but as...

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Cool - looking forward to it. Maybe best to have a separate thread(?) I saw your awesome time-lapse of the Cascades (used to live in your neck of the woods) so a side-by-side of that would be cool!

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Great to hear - hopefully someone can do a full "shoot-out" comparing the vari-focal (and fixed) against the 5442-S3's, especially in low light.

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Thanks for confirming @steve1225 that it doesn't appear sensor technology changed much ... obligatory WTF when modern sport cam/drones/etc. have improved so much - GRRRR! Interesting that adding GigE pushed the power draw up another Watt - I assumed that since 10/100/1000 was so ubiquitous...

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

GREAT stuff - thanks for posting Spec Sheets - looking forward to actual reviews. Comparing the Vari-Focals Specs of the IPC-Color4M-TZ-Pro versus the 5442 (both 4MP), the "Min Illumination" numbers only changed from 0.0007@F/1.8 to 0.0006@F1/1.2 ... so kinda suggests not much improvement in...
