It’s hard to realize how something can be so damn amazing and so useless at the same time. This is not the Tesla that made the model 3 and that makes me sad but it still might be the best thing I’ve ever watched. It’s also perfectly on trend with the 100000 videos of robots doing crazy dances...
I think the biggest difference is focus. This Uniview with p-iris seems to focus perfectly on whatever it’s supposed to be looking at. Night and day from my “auto iris” Dahua verafocals or fixed cams where everything seems to be in the “good enough” range but rarely perfect.
This is during the...
And ya so my reference point is some specialty flock cam with a $2k list price but I’m starting to think Uniview is better than Dahua. I mean the Hangzhou step child needs some love too, right? I think they’re like 2 blocks from Dahua and a mile from Hikvision. Also my Dahua turrets/domes aren't...
$69 free returns is gone for now. $200 is absolutely too much given the risk. You do get free returns for a couple weeks but these are contractual waste.
lol I bought this as a Halloween prop. Got 2x because why not. I’ve just been playing with mine and from what I’ve seen so far, my s1/2 era wizminds are reolinks now. Disclaimer I have not done hardly any night testing and I’m mostly used to full color cams.
Ii think these were released in 2021 and still current, but totally agree I wouldn’t pay $200 for somebody’s contractual waste. $70 is bearable for something that makes my WizMind cams look like toys.
They’re big and heavy AF. My two cameras came in two shipments. If nobody buys any at $200 then maybe they come back down but don’t count on it, been watching this 2018 era Dahua from them for almost a year and they’re still proud of it at 10x what I’d pay.
Home assistant’s Assist sucks so bad it isn’t even funny. 5000 tokens of safety bull crap. Gives lights like 7 colors with no ability to tune. Seriously it’s designed for the crappiest AI models on earth when using something really great and fast like deeseek4 flash costs 10 cents per month but...
Has nothing to do with “our President.” These are bipartisan decisions that have been escalating since before his first term with peak escalation around 2022-2023 when he was not in office. We’re just fighting to hang on to a system that has been regulatory captured by independent interests to...
Not going to happen. They’re too vertically integrated and primed to dominate markets. They also view value as output and market power instead of profit. Can’t compete, must ban.
We do it with everything. We decimated small telcom over it. Interesting to see if we can still get TP-Link network...
Finding Dahua in USA is an absolute nightmare. eBay banned all Dahua electronics about a year ago and Ali express blocked Dahua from USA about a month ago. You can search “N45 camera” or “5442 camera” on eBay and maybe find something every once in awhile.
If you want the newer stuff, there are...
Mine both had all wires cut except Ethernet female dongle inside the JB. Unscrewed back, pulled out to expose board, plug in Poe, wait 1 min, hold reset button 25 seconds, close up, scan port 80 on lan and found them. They connected dhcp.
I would say a year or two ago was the best sensor size to megapixel ratio but that’s mainly because a couple very poor yet large sensors hit the market.
If you don’t mind 4MP, used, and a body the size and weight of a 2-liter of soda, this is the best deal I have ever seen, I got two...
in case anyone searches this... it is fine. Custom exposure seems to respect the ranges you enter. The manual is awful, but the settings aren’t overly complicated if you dig deep enough.
What if you just held it to the same standard you hold real cameras to? You can easily use a real camera instead. Then you get to keep your nice looking doorbell.
Working for three years isn’t much of a standard. I don’t own any cameras that new.
I’m still looking for an explanation why their PoE doorbell isn’t crap. I’ve owned one and thought it was crap.
Is it just that people must have video doorbells and since they’re all crap, this one just fits in?
I’m in a suburban HOA and my doorbell does not face the street and I don’t have a house across the street. I also don’t have a video doorbell so there’s that.
I could fit 5x cat5 in the thick conduit grade sch 80 1/2 PVC just now in the garage.
4 with enough room to tape and pull. That’s just standard old school copper cat5 though. Mohawk brand riser rated.
I’d imagine the sch 40 maybe has more room inside?
This might not be helpful but I use several different tools to solve all of my vision and surveillance wants… nothing holds it all together. Most touch home assistant (docker) but only if they have to: it’s a necessary evil.
NVR - Frigate - I very rarely actually look at the UI but it controls...
I activate via homeassistant Dahua integration and frigate. Or specifically my own fork of rroller/Dahua integration. There is a small delay but it’s fast enough to catch people and add deference after sunset. Not sure what the IVS capabilities are, never used them, but it does run 4MP, 1080P...
I despise doorbell cameras. They look trashy and are all awful cameras paired with completely useless intercoms. That’s all.
I have a 5442 by my door. It’s a crappy full color one but it’s automated to turn on the light when it sees someone half way up the sidewalk and at 13ms shutter and 55%...
Mystery solved. Almost certainly a dumbed down old pro. I’m not touching a new 5 series until lightbox2 hits the shelves.
Also kind of a shame they’re using the budget battery-focused sensors in a “WizMind” 4 series but there is still a chance these are decent.
Nope just saw those released on dahua website. The new 4 series is a direct tell that it’s using SCxx5SL because of the fixed 1FPS stream. We saw these budget sensors in the PROX, but with fixed IR filter, we couldn’t test the “100% IR improvement”.
New 5 series is just speculation - LE might...
