low power build for BI, how low can you go?

I'm running 19 cameras on an i7-8700. The machine draws in the 35 watt ballpark. Most of the cameras are 4 megapixel running at 15 FPS, both of which make a difference. One quick trick to try is to set the maximum CPU percentage to 99% in the power settings, This keeps it from going into...

    Progressive Liberal Hypocrisy

It sure would be nice if these social media claims gave some context, and maybe a reference or two if somebody wanted to fact check. I'll help: This "program" is not news, it began 5 years ago. It has been extended a couple of times. But it did help with graduation rates! "Since Oregon...

Finally, an NPR article that I approve of! The trick is to order an extra-pages passport, which according to NPR doesn't have a trump version. Now that this is known, I wonder if somebody will get fired over this horrible oversight?

Well this is a real dilemma, since according to the big news outlets, the old plane has already flown its final flight.

Even though I know squat about soccer, I know what happened with this red card affair ;). If the red card was truly bogus, karma would have been for the US to win. When Trump stuck his nose in it he reversed the polarity of the karma, and the US team got shellacked.

I totally agree. But what happens if the ref is biased and breaks the rules? Seems like a complete no-win catch-22 situation. Ref gets away with it, or the victim appeals and looks bad. Maybe this upcoming game should just get cancelled? No way, money rules. The rule supposedly broken is...

    AI Good and Bad

To screw up something once might be a typo. Twice? Can any media person be that stupid? Should AI be renamed to AS (artificial stupidity)? Look too at how the picture goes with its caption. This is Fox news.

About the red card affair, like everything else we're fed only propaganda and don't know the truth. A counter argument is that the ref issued the red card on the basis of a video review, and violated the rules of how he was allowed to use the video. Just another big can of worms.

    Can't use sub streams?

A while back I had something (forgot what) that wasn't working on one camera, even though all its settings were identical to another same model camera that worked right. I eventually solved it by deleting the non-working camera and reinstalled it, copying the one that worked right.

I connected a camera to 12V and POE at the same time. Now only 12V works. Help me fix it!

I don't know about IESS cameras. Every one of the Dahua cameras I've opened up has a diode that's connected first thing to the 12 volt input, serving as both reverse polarity protection and to keep the DC from the poe circuit from flowing out of the DC input. The D15 on your board could be...

    Dahua NVR advice

My NVR is 8 years old and may not reflect current products. I used the NVR and smartPss exclusively for the first 5 to 6 years, then eventually migrated to almost exclusive BI use, while also keeping the NVR going in parallel because it does a fa couple of things that BI doesn't. NVR opinion...

    2026 New Release from EmpireTech

F0.8 has to help. Its lens gathers more light to shine on the 1/1.8 sensor. The spec sheet says it uses an M18 lens mount vs. M16 in the 5442s. It could be a game changer, or another flop. Somebody needs to buy one and report. I agree that the mount is crappy. I've avoided them because the...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

This is something I think I would enthusiastically support. I realize some won't trust it because of who's behind it. With all of the corruption of both ends of the uniparty becoming known, a new party could possibly build momentum really fast. And if it happens, it would take at least a few...

Another false opposite of the truth post. If ONE parent is a US citizen, the kid is not an anchor baby. He's/she's a citizen even if the birth is in a different country, so if the "born in the United States" clause didn't exist, the kid is still a US citizen...

That's certainly the popular gaslighting. Or could it be that these three judges were the only ones who did their research and voted to uphold the 14th amendment as it was understood at the time it was passed? The 14th amendment was introduced into the senate by senator Jacob Howard, who was...

Best way to power Tapo C530WC (9V 0.85A, 5.5×2.1mm) over 20–30m cable run

A big picture way to look at the voltage drop, with rounded numbers to make the math easier, using 10 volts for your camera and 50 volts for the POE. 1. The current will be 5x greater at 10 volts. 2. With same gauge wire, the voltage drop will be 5x greater if using 10 volts. 3. That 5x greater...

There's a bunch of sleight-of-hand and logic errors in this social media beauty. First off, the $20,100 "paid by employer" is not a subsidy, it's part of the employee compensation package. Would anybody really believe that the employer is giving a gift of ~$20k without a corresponding...

This post is exactly backwards gaslighting. The 17th amendment took the senators from actually representing their state, instead making nation-wide big money decide who gets elected. Since the small population states have the same number of senators as the big ones, they are easy targets for...

Is the regime in Iran soon to be toast?

I don't understand, maybe somebody can offer a simple explanation. Looking at a map it looks to me that the strait can be transited without ever enter Iran territorial waters. If Iran meddles in Oman's waters, isn't than an act of war that should be condemned and retaliated against by the UN...

The reason costs exploded is because the dems and their great leaders f-ed up the medical system while enriching the insurance companies and big pharma at the same time. The enhanced subsidies that hid the rising costs were put in place during the Biden administration and set at that time to...

    Funny / Satire

One of my hot buttons. Our 2008 Audi climate controls are a true pain in the ass to operate. And even with "auto" mode off, it still does annoying things on its own. Your either have to let it do what you don't want, or take you eyes off the road to reverse what it did on its own. I...

    Direct burial cable recommendation

Is anybody able to explain how the splitter/combiner above could support Mode B? The only thing I can think of is that the combiner box (box with switch on it) would convert the two Mode B connections from the switch to Mode A before sending its output down a single network wire. It doesn't...
