Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

As far as I know, the US has no access to Dahua products. I guess there will be an EmpireTech equivalent?

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Presuming the video of the cat you posted is from the 54pro-AS, I could definitely be happy with those results. Other than the IR from the camera, what other lighting was present? I see a small light near the doorway, anything else for lighting in this scene? Oh, and was this 2.8mm version?

    2026 New Release from EmpireTech

As far as I'm concerned, a good image begins with a good sensor and optics. If you don't have either, the image will never be good. No amount of software manipulation will make it good if you're using a noisy sensor and/or poor optics. Manipulation cannot currently replicate what the human eye...

    2026 New Release from EmpireTech

Video still looks soft and there seems to be a lot of odd pixel shift throughout the video sample. Too much going on for the processor to handle at this time it seems.

    NDAA update

I bet it gets the "Amstink" moniker. Or since Apple is mentioned in their letter - "I-stink" cameras

    NDAA update

What a gimmick. My bet is there's NO IR for nighttime viewing, so it's only useful during the day. And at $55, I wouldn't hold my breath on that front either.

Should I remove my front gate?

Like I mentioned, I don't see the point of the gate with the other possible entry points not having the same protection. In my opinion, it really detracts from the look of the home. If it were me, I would take it down.

Should I remove my front gate?

I can't see the point, especially since there are windows left and right with no such protection. Going through a window would be the easiest way in here.

    UNV quad camera - yikes!

You're more knowledgeable than I. I wouldn't know the "Ins" and "Outs" of that course of action

    UNV quad camera - yikes!

Us peasants in the states cannot own anything Dahua since they've been banned here

    UNV quad camera - yikes!

Oh wait, my application would only be 16 MP total vs their 20 MP total. It's all a numbers game kids. Those 1/2.7 inch sensors will do just dandy in low light situations

    UNV quad camera - yikes!

You could create a much better performing setup for about $1600 for four 5442s, a small POE switch and accessories (junction boxes, etc.). Plus, where in the H E double hockey sticks do you mount something like that in residential application?

There's a hole in my funds bucket and I can't seem to find it. The fill valve is only providing a trickle. I think there's a blockage and a leak somewhere

New 5MP Starvis 2 sensor announced

And like most 5mp cameras, it is a 4:3 aspect ratio. So, you either get black space on each side when viewing or the image is cropped to fit. Either way, in my opinion, not ideal. But what do I know

    IR illuminator install

If it were just me here, I'd paint the damn downspout flat black and be done with it, but I live with the wife and the WAF on covering, painting or adding something to the downspout will likely not end well. I think my only option is to add the small deflector panels to the illuminator to help...

    IR illuminator install

It currently is mounted to the fence in a temporary fashion for testing. As I mentioned, mounting the illuminator too forward will likely create a dark spot right at the gate, right where you would want to recognize the perp. I think the only option that I can see here is right where it is...

    IR illuminator install

I wanted to revisit adding an IR illuminator to our narrow side yard, specifically placement as there is quite a bit of obstacles to deal with. With that in mind, my initial thought was to mount on the short fence panel next to the gate directly below the camera as it would be equidistant from...
