OK, from that perspective, I suppose one could consider it "more secure". Fair enough. Technically though the fact someone doesn't know the address is sort of security-by-obscurity...
Not to be controversial, and I am by no means good at IPv6, but...
OK, but this does mean firewall rules will be needed on the remote side (cameras) firewalls, to allow the BI traffic to get to the camera. Unless you have a really terrible firewall that passes inbound IPv6 by default (scary!)...
Looks like the Inseego FX4100 supports VPN protocols.
Setup a VPN server at your HQ, either on the BI PC or another PC / VM, or on your HQ firewall depending on the model. Configure each cellular router to dial an outbound VPN to the HQ - then it doesn't matter if their IP's are not truly...
I have been having no issues with RDP in general. Using either the original RDP client in Windows, or mRemoteNG manager.
From a very quick piece of research, Microsoft may be deprecating the remote desktop app from the Store - or replacing it with a new version. However, nowhere have I seen...
And the new camera dialog is messed up.
EDIT:
The Windows Search UI also suffers from a similar problem on this box, over RDP (the start menu is fine though):
So maybe a Windows issue. Funny that it only affects certain components (both in Windows and BI) - some UI elements are fine.
Interestingly, I just RDP'd to the BI server for the first time - instead of using the Hypervisor VNC console. When I started up BI, and got the license prompt (I haven't entered key yet), the font was wrong, as before, AND the scaling was off, just like in this thread.
But, once I clicked...
I have just done a clean install of BI 6 in a Server 2022 VM, and have a similar issue - except in my case, the scaling seems fine, but I have the same weird font in the dialog boxes!
Fair enough. I will experiment and see what CPU usage looks like first.
I guess unless CPU is too slow or can't cope, hassling with the GPU may not be worth it...
OK, will do that, although I can only install the driver after passing through the GPU obviously (haven't done that yet). Also the "latest" driver from NVIDIA is still from about 2018, and for a slightly older OS version, but I am hoping it'll work OK.
Yes. I am going to try and setup BI to use internal IVS where possibly - haven't got that far yet, still installing BI on the server.
I would like to have the capability to run AI on the server though, for cases where the camera doesn't support what I need.
I think I will try it. I am more worried that the models will fail to run due to the age of the card / low compute capability (2.0), rather than just slow detection times.
Does look like used GPUs are available quite cheaply, which have a higher compute rating...
I am in the process of configuring new BI server (on some older hardware). I have a Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPU in the system, which I am considering potentially using for AI tasks within BI (or CPAI).
However, I am aware this is an older card, and wondered about compatibility with the AI models...
Yes :)
From memory its a 2.8-12mm varifocal. So not a very long focal length at all by LPR standards, but the distance isn't too bad (40ft max, then the vehicles will get a lot closer, although they may start to turn sooner or later).
Exactly! I think I will be doing some testing at some point...
Disclaimer: I am not experienced in LPR!
Context: I have an old Hik turret which I decommissioned, replaced with an EmpireTech, because it is 4MP on a 1/3, and thus performs terribly in low light. However, I wondered about repurposing it for something useful, instead of doing nothing.
It...
Very good point, I will certainly do that.
I am using ZFS to mirror two SSD's for PVE and VM OS disks etc. And then I am thinking I will probably passthrough any dedicated BI video storage disks to BI VM.
I also keep meaning to, while I have the server case open, disconnect 1 of the two SSD's...
I need to purchase a BI license. I accessed the IPCT store, but have two challenges. The first being that I am struggling to actually login to the store at all! The second being that the BI licenses are showing out of stock.
So, I contacted IPCT (https://ipcamtalk.com/misc/contact), about both...
I successfully cross-flashed an IT firmware onto my LSI LS2-SAS9240-8i and it seems to be presenting the individual drives to Proxmox.
Now I can go through and setup the server.
If I understand correctly, this will only if is your NVR acts as a router between it's LAN and it's POE ports. I have no idea if it will do this.
This is a good suggestion. I doubt it even depends on the the virtual host feature - it just pulls the streams from the NVR, not the cameras...
I will look for a guide. I did notice that the manual states JBOD mode is supported, but there is no mention of IT mode. I assumed they were equivalent, but have since discovered there is a difference, and true IT mode is preferable. Hopefully JBOD will do...
After ordering a SAS Controller, I have just found an LSI LS2-SAS9240-8i laying around which I can use. Untested, but I assume it works. I may cancel my order for the other one.
Anyone know how one can switch these LSI cards between RAID and IT / JBOD mode?
Sounds like people get on OK with SAS3008 based cards then.
Quite. I do have one SATA WD Purple drive which I will use, but I also have access to a bunch of enterprise SAS drives - whilst they may not (I haven't checked) be rated for continuous writes, they are enterprise grade pieces of...
Anyone used SAS controllers for drives?
I have access to some enterprise drives, but discovered that they are SAS not SATA. I don't think my server supports SAS as it is.
I did notice there are quite a few PCIe SAS controllers going used: Sas Card for sale | eBay
Interesting.
In this case I will start off with the internal drive slots - there is 4 of them, although I suspect I can fit a 2.5" SSD and a 3.5" HDD in one slot - the smaller SSD mounts in an 'extra' bit at the top. So that effectively gives 6 disks, considering I have 2 SSD's for OS at the...
