    Insects and Cameras

    What's the alternative?
  6. T

    Exposing to the internet.

As Mike said, VPN is your most secure bet, but an alternative, don't expose the cameras themselves, expose a web server (Blue Iris, Zoneminder, or whatever flavor you choose) that way, you control the O/S patch levels, and software updates. Known exploit? Patch, or change to something else...

Why does it seem Foscam and Hikvision cameraa have most problems with BI updates

My Hiks are 720P 10FPS iFrame 10, 1/30 min shutter. Recording direct to disk. Pretty solid for quite a while now. My foot still hurts a lot , thanks for asking. Ice, elevation, and time are all that's needed for now. Probably some physio later. Hopefully will walk again in 6-7 more weeks :(...

Windows 10 - Words of wisdom with BI

Some good points. I agree everything *should* be ok, and for a system not running a lot of different programs, no big deal. My comments are based on years and years of corporate experience dating back to before Windows. We have some apps that plain will not run (vendor actually warned us) on...

Windows 10 - Words of wisdom with BI

Can't say I've disagreed with much of anything you've posted, Fenderman. But this, Absolute truth. Never upgrade Windows. It's a pain. Backup everything. Export registry hives for all your software if you must. Hell, even screenshots of settings. But don't upgrade. And always wait for...

Windows 10 - Words of wisdom with BI

Yes, it does suck. Been doing it for over 20 years. I was in our new (less than 2 years old) hospital on Sunday - Fell off a ladder and shattered my foot. Be careful mounting and wiring your cameras, kids, I get to not walk or drive for 6-8 weeks - Anyway, the computer they used to show me...

Very Disappointed - Lack Of Support

The other's have covered your initial message :) 2 things: 1) perhaps if you emailed the support email address you may have received a faster reply [email protected] maybe not, but he may check that email more regularly. 2) If you'd like to start a thread about the problems...

Bummer. Though it seems to me there's room for + - buttons on the bar with the schedule and current camera area. Just sayin' :)

    Hikvision Bullet Install

I have to agree. Cat5/6 is easy to tuck into crevices and becomes almost invisible.

CPU usage went from 65-70% to 95-100% after upgrade to 4.09.12

Yeah, frame rate is hard to find on those. I think it's buried in the config somewhere in the stream settings.

CPU usage went from 65-70% to 95-100% after upgrade to 4.09.12

What kind of camera? Also tweaking the I frame setting can get rid of the ghosting with direct to disk.

    I made a better remote-live-view page [OLD]

Just went from .07 to 0.8.2 Nice work. Thanks so much for your continuing efforts on this, really enhances Blue Iris!

[/LIST] I love the zoom feature. This may be a dumb question, is there an equivalent for non-wheel mice or laptop trackpads?

Blue iris video is not smooth

TS, terminal server? I'd suggest having him watch it via a web browser, see if that's smoother.

What style drywall anchors are best?

I use yellow plastic anchors and #8 screws for EVERYTHING around the house. Unless it's something really heavy, or really small artwork which gets a small hook or nail. Some of the ones posted here seem like overkill for a small IP camera.

    Noob set up question

True, I did look at that. Where it's going there will only ever be 2 cams. JUst wanted something cheap to run 2 cams that are a fair distance away from my main POE switch, and only wanted to run 1 cable to 'em.

    Noob set up question

Some NVRs do POE, so that's possible. I just got one of these for under my deck where I'm going to have 2 cameras. http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-8-Port-100Mbps-Switch-TPE-S44/dp/B000QYEN1W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1433810614&sr=8-2&keywords=trendnet+poe

How to setup cam for garage lighting

I have a cheap really old 4xem camera in my garage, and it handles it reasonably well. As long as there's an auto-iris it should be able to handle changing light conditions. My Hiks (3 on temporary mouse patrol) in the garage handle it very well.

    Noob set up question

If you're not plugging in to a POE (power over ethernet) hub, then yes You'll need a power source for the camera. Probaly 12v, but check the manual. Edit: an alternative to a POE switch is a POE injector, it will act like a POE switch and give the camera power. But if you have more than one...
