    Colorvu white light

Thanks. The issue is the LEDs aren't turning on at all when it gets dark--The picture is just black. When I had higher gain, it seemed to work correctly. I was reducing gain to try to reduce the noise in the image. I'm ok with a slower shutter speed since this camera is only monitoring a...

    Colorvu white light

I'm having difficulty understanding how the supplemental light works on my Colorvu (DS-2CD2347G1-L and DS-2CD2T47G1-L) cameras. I've tried to improve the image quality by reducing the gain of the camera. However, for some reason now the supplemental light will no longer turn on automatically)...

    Hikvision as a brand

As far as I could find, there is no documentation that you can read to learn it. You can eavesdrop on expert discussions on forums, but even they appear to be just exchanging things they have discovered through experimentation. This is a stark contrast to BI that has a solid vendor-created...

    Hikvision as a brand

A few years ago I put in a system with 7 Hikvision cameras and a Hikvision NVR. I have a technical background (MS computer architecture) but didn't really know any thing about video so consider me a rank amateur. I found the Hikvision system easy to deploy. But getting it to work in a usable...

    IPC-T54IR-AS-S3 Day/Night Switch

Using Blue Iris, but have set up the cameras so they correctly get DST. But that's the problem--the scheduler only allows you to choose a single day/night switch time for the whole month, but sunset occurs an hour earlier after DST ends.

    IPC-T54IR-AS-S3 Day/Night Switch

I've been using the scheduler to postpone figuring out how to automate switching between day and night. Is there a way to deal with daylight savings time when using the scheduler (eg sunset is at 6:09pm on Nov 1 and 5:08pm on Nov 2)? Or will this be the forcing function to figure out how to...

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

The quality is vastly better than Flock. We capture way more plates at way higher resolution. And we have overview video as well which Flock doesn't offer. Flock does have an advantage in ALPR, but this isn't really a feature we need. At some point I may play around with the Blue Iris add-on...

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

We had one already and have gotten rid of it. There's no restriction on private use. The potential concerns come if authorities use multiple cameras them to track movements. Our issue was the system was vandalized multiple times and Flock's monitoring wasn't good enough to detect it.

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

Fingers crossed. Ours are on a 12' pole and we painted them with camouflage paint so they aren't as obvious as the Flock camera was. Still, it would suck if someone painted them. I emailed Andy to see if he has any protective domes/film. This also looks interesting: BDF AG4M Window Film...

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

Bad guys really don't like Flock. At first they cut the power cable from the solar cell on our camera. Now they cut the repaired cable, spray painted the lens, and hit the camera with something. The irony is that we've implemented our own cameras and Flock isn't even active any more...

Yeah stationary cars looked great in auto mode, but moving cars were really blurry. I figure the cars are going 15-20mph at the capture point, so with my 20ms shutter they travel ~6" during each frame--already not great. With auto mode's slower shutter, they probably move 1-2 feet.

Update: I ran the tests that I mentioned earlier. As most of you pointed out, there simply wasn't enough light in the scene for the camera. In fact, to get color on the stationary car with no headlights, I needed to use a 30ms shutter with a gain of 70. Headlights/taillights actually improved...

Yes. There's a good chance this situation is just because I don't know what I'm doing...:)

Nope they are off. Our previous Flock camera was disabled twice by bad guys, so we want to keep this installation more obscure. If we have to add light, we would use some kind of external lighting.

    Picture tuning suggestions

Yeah--hoping to avoid extra lighting for aesthetic reasons but may have to go there. But I'm still not sure how much of the issue is ambient light. As I mentioned, the left side of the image is almost under a street light and the right side is about about 40 ft away. The scene is far from...

    Picture tuning suggestions

We had limited places where could install the camera and backhaul the signal to the NVR. Our primary goal was to capture plates, which is working well. So now we just need to get as much as we can from the overview. We'd be happy with just car color and model--don't need a lot of detail. I...

    Picture tuning suggestions

We have just put in a couple of cameras to monitor the entrance to our neighborhood. Our LP capture is operating well but I'm having trouble getting our overview camera to capture acceptable images at night. Our only goal for this camera is to be able to identify the color and model of the...

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

About 8 days. They have to credit us for the time the camera was down, but nothing more. It's beside the point since the requirement is that it be up on the rare occasion it is needed.

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

By the way, Flock told us that they did know the camera wasn't working--They just hadn't gotten around to fixing it or telling us. We felt much better :rolleyes:

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

To be fair, I don't think Flock is focused on one/two camera neighborhoods. Around here, they seems to be cutting deals with cities for a few dozen cameras at a time. It makes sense. The cost of selling/supporting this is much lower. Plus, Flock's "technology" (solar power, cellular...

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

We pay $1500 since we're grandfathered in. But clearly Flock isn't actually doing any work for the money. My neighbor just OK'd mounting a camera on their fascia where I can bridge it into my wifi. We live on a cul-de-sac so this would point straight up the street about 100' from where the...

Flock installed LPR's without permits and has now been banned from operating in two states

We have one in our neighborhood. We've had 3 incidents and the Flock camera has failed to capture the license plate each time. The most recent time, the camera cable had been cut more than a week prior and no one noticed. Our Flock camera is mounted on a 6 foot pole. They mounted a large...
