Hi everyone,

Or is an external boundary / directional microphone under the desk still necessary to achieve real speech clarity?
I’m looking for real-world advice from installers who have tested cameras in similar environments.
I need to install 2 IP turret cameras (8MP) in a gym reception area.
Environment:
- Small reception desk (about 1–1.5 meters from camera position)
- Two receptionist positions + cash register in the middle
- Very noisy environment (music, weights area, echo, people talking)
- Indoor lighting controlled
Main requirement (very important):
I need clear speech intelligibility, not just “audio recording”.The goal is to understand conversations between:
- receptionist and clients
What I am considering:
- Hikvision 8MP G2 / G3 series (AcuSense / DarkFighter / ColorVu)
- Dahua 8MP WizSense / TiOC / 2849 series
- Possibly ANNKE C800 as budget option
Key question:
In real installations, is the built-in microphone + DSP/noise reduction on modern Hikvision/Dahua cameras actually enough to clearly understand conversations in a noisy environment like this?Or is an external boundary / directional microphone under the desk still necessary to achieve real speech clarity?
Constraints:
- I would prefer NOT to install external microphones if possible
- Cameras must be PoE IP (no analog-only solution)
- Must integrate with NVR/XVR (Hikvision or Dahua ecosystem preferred)
What I’d like to know from experience:
- Which camera series actually performs best for voice clarity?
- Is dual microphone (array) significantly better than single mic?
- Any real-world success/failure stories in similar environments?
- Any DSP settings that make a big difference?
