Maybe with the new AI stuff, there is no need for a good sensor, AI will generate a good image, from a lower grade sensor(lol).
That is certainly the spin they are putting on it. But you can't defy physics with a $200 camera either...

This right here.Face it, We’re dealing with $200 cameras. They aren’t “the best” , they’re more like “pretty good”
And for many “pretty good” may be “Good enough”
This right here.
Case in point...my LPR West cam's glass lens cover has been coated with crap from my lawn sprinklers to the point that it has a quite fuzzy video. I have 'cleaned' it a number of times but it keeps coming back. Used vinegar, lemons, etc. but is no longer a clear image. I bought a new, replacement cam just before my daughter passed, but have yet to install it. Just don't have the energy yet. So right now, it is "good enough". If I go frame-by-frame I can usually pull out each digit of the plate if need be.
I agree with @wittaj about the overview cams. Every cam position needs a plan based on what your purpose of that view is. If you want an overview that might show color of car or jacket, maybe make of car or number of doors, then get the proper cam for that. Just do not expect it to give you identify quality images.
Thank goodness I never installed a Reolink PoE Floodlight![]()
That Reolinks Crazy. It's captured the CIA testing Adaptive Camouflage. The top halfs adapted to look like the hedge and the bottom half un-camouflaged is as plain as day. Testing success!
It's also captured robo dog, a shadow of it's former self with an led eye. White for friendly, red for kill.
Go to go, people knocking at the door....
Surely you can adjust some exposure settings and or force it into IR ? Can you even do that to a Reolink?![]()

This was a Dahua 54PRO for anyone wondering. The new update coming soon will magically improve the camera. This was a Dahua 54PRO for anyone wondering.
The purpose was to get color ID at the street. Running it in IR/B&W was even worse
I replaced it with a 5442 Z4 and while not perfect, it does exponentially better
