Less than 12 hours with a PTZ leads to an arrest and jail

I've been pretty busy in the last year it seems like, and I have a backlog of clips to share. But a few days ago there was an incident where I really could have benefited from seeing a face, and I have the PTZ425DB-AT-R sitting here in a box that I bought on sale from Andy A YEAR AGO.

I decided to throw it up. Its much larger than you think

I've been playing with the settings and testing it out, and this thing is unreal

So around midnight rolls around, and I am still playing with IVS and other night time settings. I see a car down at the end of the road, a perfect example to zoom in on! Well, they are doing some illegal dumping!

Of course, I get their plate with the LPR cams

My video is not great, but it gets a decent shot at the person. I figure the police won't care, but 20 mins after calling, I have a patrol car in my driveway

He looks up the plate and it comes back to an older Hispanic female, and sure enough she has priors or ag assualt, felony theft and a bunch of other things. And she has an outstanding warrant

HPD goes and picks her up, and they call me later on saying she is on her way to jail

PTZ FTW

How does the PTZ425DB-AT-R perform in the dark? OK despite the 4MP on a smaller than 1/1.8 sensor?

Seemed to be doing OK in the clip, even in color rather than IR mode... How much ambient lighting do you have? Have you tested out it's IR capabilities?

Honestly better than I thought it would, its pretty good. I hate B&W mode so I leave it on color and hope for the best. There is not much ambient lighting over there at all, I do plan to install a flood light to assist with the PTZ now I have it

The IR is great, and is aided by the IR of my LPR cams which are cranked up to 100%

Can you post a picture of it installed?

Never mind. Wittag answered the question.

Interesting, thank you. I don't have anything that is 4MP on a smaller sensor like that, but I am intrigued by how well (or not) they do perform, as many PTZs seem to use the smaller sensor.

Color is nice, but in some cases I prefer IR. Depends on the scene. Do you have any sample clips from the PTZ running in IR mode you could share?

It is shown on first picture in this thread.
Da...I thought it was going to be placed where the two yellow cables were hanging.

LOL - I thought so too when I first saw the post. But having one of these cameras I then noticed it to the left. And if pizza thinks this one is big LOL, he needs to get a traditional PTZ!

Yeah the soffit vent allows easy access to run cable

I'll snap some new pics soon. The second cable is for a Ubiquiti PtP you can see in the window, I moved it to its permanent spot outside

Honestly, the performance of this PTZ is pretty mindblowing, I'm thinking about getting another for the driveway

If you had one of the other PTZs as your first PTZ, you would be underwhelmed with this thing! But you have more light than most of us, so that helps.

The small form factor is a huge plus on it.

What exactly was she doing? Fly Tipping? Also if that's the case, why would you wear a fluo jacket!

Yeah, illegal dumping/fly tipping

I suspect she takes one of these jobs at an apartment complex where they collect trash from the doors of units, and then just dumps it wherever. Why else would you have a trailer full of random trash bags? Very odd

Install pics, I've yet to decide if this looks a mess or not yet :p

Those bay windows will be replaced, the entire box/structure is junk

Looks ok to me. I wish I had a place that I could use that PTZ cam.

Those cameras are good in the daytime, but just fair at night under most circumstances. This is another example of a very good camera that Dahua just f-ups by not easily making it a fantastic decent-sized camera. Their management must severely punish employees who can forward think instead of figuring out ways to f-up everything. :poop::poop::poop::poop::poop:

You cannot tell where it’s pointed at all
An added bonus of the camera is it may act as a deterrent when the thief hears it moving and decides to run away. :idk:

The smoke model is almost silent!
