This is the second crop ever from this Dwarf Cavendish banana plant in my back yard. The first crop, a few years ago, was damaged by the stalk folding under the weight of the fruit, because I'd supported it incorrectly, and the bananas never fully ripened.

This time I have a much better support structure made of 2" PVC, and it worked very well.

I ate my first fruit on 01/23/26, nearly 7 months after I saw the flower bud starting to push its way out. Bananas take a long time here in Southern California. They were tasty! But they're gone now, and I'll have to wait a few more years until the pup in the lower left is ready to fruit.

I do have a Namwah plant in another part of my yard that is flowering now, but it's not in a great place for a time-lapse camera.

This video was captured by a Wyze Cam v3, powered from an outside light socket and Wyze socket adapter, with the images extracted daily via an ffmpeg cron job pulling from the RTSP stream, and the images finally combined via ffmpeg after it was all over.
