Truckers not clearing height restrictions

I've been watching the 180+ videos a for a couple of years now, at 11foot8.com . They put in an advance over-height sensor to flash an overhead warning sign....no help. They raised the bridge 8 inches in Oct. 2019...no help.

The 11-foot-8 bridge, also known as the "Can Opener Bridge" is actually the Norfolk Southern–Gregson Street Overpass in Durham, NC.

Most of the trucks that hit the bridge protection beam and sustain damage have drivers that:
  1. are not paying attention 2)
  2. do not know the overall height of their truck, RV or its accessories or
  3. cannot read.
P.S. - Note that an overwhelming number of the victims claimed by the hungry bridge are in rental trucks from Budget, Enterprise and Penske. Many times these are driven by those with little or no large truck experience and/or are not familar with the area.....and are certainly not aware of the bridge's appetite for the unwary. :cool:

It amazes whenever I see semi-trailers on a local parkway with signs clearly visible - No Trucks on Parkway! :facepalm:

Yes, that could have had a very bad outcome.

The statistics for large truck and bus crashes are unfortunately lumped together but I have a feeling that for the amount of miles driven that the large tour bus drivers have a LOT more accidents than the commercial semis and large box trucks.....just an opinion based on observations, I can't back that up.
 
Ah, even HOPE sometimes is not enough.....or too much in this case, I guess. :highfive:

I can't back up a commercial semi or large tour bus either and you won't find me trying!

Tour bus drivers regularly go on the Needles Highway in the Black Hills. They literally have to thread the needle with their bus...
