Can't turn on blue iris as a service

I'm so frustrated.....

I turned off run as a service temporarily in Blue Iris... Made some changes, then re-ran BI and tried to turn on the running as a service option.

It prompted me for a username and password. Says to leave blank if it's a local machine, which it is.

I can't get past this to enable it to run as a service..... Sigh.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

I'm running the latest Version 99 of V5 on Windows 11.

Did you read the section in the help file on 'Running as a Service", I am on 6.x but it should be there in 5.x, do you have an administrator local account and know the password?

I didn't read the help file. Not sure where it is?

I think the default user on the machine is admin. I just recently installed Windows 11.

I didn't need to enter any passwords when I set it to run as a service initially, so not sure why it needs it now?

I guess I'll have to reset my password, because I tried all sorts of things which didn't work. I presume the username is just the first 5 letters of the microsoft account?

I wonder if I could just modify a BI registry key to set it to run as a service again?

The help file is the question mark at the top of the BI console, if your account is a local administrator and has a password then that is what you enter in the prompt to run as a service.
Are you logging into windows 11 using a pin by any chance, if so then that is going to be a problem, I think MS has done some pretty stupid things with the PIN implementation, because you can not use the PIN to run a local service, or at least I don't know a way!

OK thanks. I am using a PIN to unlock and get into windows.... So maybe that's a problem here?

I may try to cheat and change the registry key. I see a "Service" key here. (Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Perspective Software\Blue Iris\Options)

You don't have to cheat, there is an easier way, just open the services (click the search icon, type in services) locate the BI service entry and open it, select the Log On tab, set it to run as a "local system account"!
