Hey Guys,

We have around a dozen or so Dahua NVRs deployed over the last year or so.

Up until recently we just added them to the DMSS app on the phone using the scanned QR code - or input using Serial number and Password

We had a number of people who had this setup on their phones and each one was able to login and view the cameras on each NVR.

We have just had a user report that (apparently) after an upgrade on Android to DMSS - they can no longer see the cameras and have to readd them to the system (using Serial number and Admin password) - however when they try and view the cameras now they are being told that the cameras are bound to a specific users email address (my Gmail Address as i am the one who has set all the units up previously and am the first to add them to DMSS on my phone when testing)

It appears that i have to now share the cameras with other peoples nominated email addresses and i can only do the sharing if i create an online Dahua account and then add each of the NVRs to that account ?

Does anyone know of a way around this - or is this just Dahuas way of forcing us to use their online portal ?

Craig

You must of added to account instead of local. Not sure if deleting and readding on your phone will unbind. If you do share and everyone is using the same email it’ll keep logging everyone out when someone else logs in.

Nope definitely did not add it to an online account - simply because i have never created one on the Dahua website. I always add locally - usually by scanning the QR code that comes up - but for this test with a new phone i just installed the lastest DMSS and then added the device by the serial number and Admin account password.

It looks like it might be some new requirement in the latest version ?

None of the NVRs have been added to their servers in the past

Will do some more testing today and see where i get to and report back

No, I meant in the DMSS app, when you get to the second or third step there’s an option below that by default is account.

Yeah sorry - what i meant is that i have never had an account setup on the Dahua site so not sure how that would be possible

I will try and add another one of the sites and see what happens

OK got it.

What happened is one of the other users has created a Dahua account and then logged into their DMSS with that account.

Once you are logged to the app with an online account then the app reports that the device is owned by that account.

I got them to logout of their online account and they were then able to manually add the device with Serial #/local Admin password and it was fine.

thanks for the pointers.

Any time you get the user to install app, get them to skip past registering. This is pure china data collection

Is there any way to turn off the prompting of signing in or creating an account? Seems like it prompts way more often these days. Not sure if it just after an update of the app or based upon number of app launches. Would love to find a way to shut this off.

Use Easyviewer. You will never remove that prompt. Dahua are knee deep in collecting your data and they aint going back

how safe is EasyViewer -- are they watching my cams alongside me?

got a buddy that is having issues with DMSS, worked fine for about a year, nothing changed, now he cant view them on iPhone.

can he try to scan the QR code in this NVR and get up and running with DMSS.

*can you even have both apps a the same time?

Just downloaded Easyviewer Pro and did some tests. Very similar in function/feature. Wonder if I can add Hikvision NVR systems as well. Can't find a compatibility list. This might to the trick. Thank you. The user login prompt causes issues with less technical people and then issues come up with access and notifications.

Edit- It appears Easyviewer Pro is also made by Dahua. Anyone know why the 2 apps?

Also for flynreelow, I have both running on Android and am getting tripwire notifications on both apps. Seems like both apps running is not a problem at first look.

P2P does not send the stream or info to Dahua. The app connects to their discovery servers like any P2P app to handshake/validate and know where to go find the NVR.

If using P2P with EasyViewer it won’t change that.

If you look at the traffic on a firewall you’ll see this

When DMSS asks you to login, simply ignore it. It’s not mandatory to use the app.

thank u sir.

Clearly like any app on your phone with an "account" to login to they want info on you, but it isnt watching your video

I dont know all of the reasons for an account, I dont use it. But I know certain things like being able to transfer an account, share such as described at the top of this thread, and I believe storage of events for later recall all need an account. There are likely others.

I don't update DMSS regularly as its a bad idea for a number of reasons. Once I get a version that works well, I tend to leave things alone unless there is a strong security update. Same as every other app and my computers. Auto-updating will bite you in the ass eventually

I'm currently on iOS version July 28, 2025

I believe you will be seeing Dahua stress and maybe force registration eventually as with their DoLynk ecosystem that provides a subscription model/platform it wouldnt surprise me that they go that way (like countless other companies.) . But I think and hope they will leave us DIY'ers alone and allow us to continue as we have been.

There are others here much more knowledgeable that are close to Dahua and far more educated on their plans

@bigredfish
so why would you make an account on DMSS if you dont have to?

also, I gave my buddy your instructions and he will test it today!
In regards to why have DMSS account? Dahua NVR's & IP cameras are not the only things Dahua are into. Have to remember that Dahua products were not designed for direct to consumer purchases. Installers and dealers are suppose to get involved. With my dealings of Toshiba business systems (for business telephone systems), having a local and cloud-based account has its commercial purposes in regard to organization and security. I assume DMSS is the same.
