I would not expect any NVR with > 2 TB compatibility to actually have an upper limit. At least, not one that will be reached within our lifetimes given the current pace of data storage development. They probably just wrote the size of the biggest drive they tested with.

2 TB was a common limit years and years ago because that was the maximum size supported by the MBR partitioning scheme due to it using 32 bit numbers for addressing. Evidently signed 32 bit numbers, because unsigned numbers would have let them handle 4 TB disks. The GPT partitioning scheme has widely replaced MBR, and its limit is something on the order of 9.4 billion terabytes.

Those HDD company earn too much recently, the market is badly lack of stocks for those small HDD like 1TB, 2TB. They put their resources for bigger ones that AI need.
