Not a mess. All posts are generally answered. Traffic isn’t high though so nothing is lost and easy to navigate.
The largest subs have hundreds of posts per day. Reddit works on a voting system. Upvotes keep popular posts higher in visibility. Downvotes move posts out of view over time.
Has anyone thought about creating a temporary subreddit for ipcamtalk forum users while this forum undergoes surgery?

I have been on Reddit for a while and they shut down subs all the time. Most likely if we had the same political chit chat in there the angry libs of Reddit would get it shut down. A honest substitute for this forum that is pretty solid is Discord. You can use it on the web or an app.
