    ok thanks for that info. for the camera that will be at my front entrance/porch, the porch is about 8x5 feet. I would like to capture this entire area. do you think 4mm would cover it or should I go with 2.8mm? the camera will be mounted above the door, at one of the corners of the porch.

    yes there are differences. all the numbers in the DORI in the 4mp model are lower. since my property is not that big, I figure those lower numbers are better for me. the Minimum Illumination is lower in the 4mp model which I think is better right? here are all the differences. still not...

    ok so it would seem to be that the best out of the three would be the DS-2CD2347G3-LIS2UY/S(L)(RB) model since its a G3 model and its 4mp and sensor is 1/1.8" and you guys say that is the sweet spot for image quality. and since its 4mp, it should be cheaper than the 8mp camera. would you agree?

    Hi all, is it ok if the installer used pvc to run the wires through, along the outside of the house instead of metal? And what type of cable should he be using? Obviously a cable for outdoors, but would cat6 be good enough?

    so if the dori of a camera using 2.8mm focal length is: 2.8 mm, D: 79 m, O: 31 m, R: 15 m, I: 7 m, that means it would be able to identify someone at 7 meter, therefore if that person is 1-2 meters away, they will be out of focus and therefore will not be identifiable?
