    Loryta PTZ5A4M-25X Animal Tracking Example

We are lucky enough to be above the river valley. Just a few miles away, roads are covered with water. Can't get to towns east of us due mud slides and real reis of trees falling on cars. Amazing few power outages. So, could be worse.

    Loryta PTZ5A4M-25X Animal Tracking Example

External mic. One has to ask Andy about his special firmware with animal tracking. It isn’t one he allows to be posted or shared.

    Loryta PTZ5A4M-25X Animal Tracking Example

Andy;s animal tracking firmware isn't perfect, but often better than no tracking. Here is a striking example of PTZ automatic tracking of a coyote. Exposure does get a bit overblown at closes approach, but overall it is pretty good for a camera that would otherwise not track animals

    OMG Thermal!

Coyote leaves a "deposit" from which thermal easily picks up heat. Sorry buddy, burying it didn't hide it.

Incredible light show tonight in Iowa

Wow! What a sight there. I would have loved your clear sky for this show. Super reds in your picts. Red is from about 200 miles up in atmosphere. Here, near Seattle, I barely got a couple hours before clouds and blocked everything. Caught a fireball, though.

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

It was via UPS. Tracking simply stopped at Salt Lake City after seeing. On the Way Delay Salt Lake City, UT, United States 08/13/2025, 3:37 P.M. No sign of it since. So, obviously I can't do my planned comparison.

    2025 New Arrivals From EmpireTech

Ugh! Camera shipment lost in limbo. Andy has started investigation for its location.

    Cable length in junction box

I agree with looney2ns that cat 7 is a poor choice for this application. None of the cameras are 10 gbe data rate and thicker, stiffer cable make things more difficult to fit everything in junction box. I recommend leaving enough ethernet cable for at least two more episodes of cutting off and...

Triple Headed, Pole Top, Turret Cam Mount

Just a very thin ring of plumber's under base of camera mount is all I did. The entry hole for the pig tail isn't further sealed. I treat the inside connections with silicone grease, like any other camera connection. Despite rain and wind exposure for several years in my dual camera mounts...

CBR vs VBR recorded video quality

H264 CBR here on 30+ cameras, all set at a high enough bitrate to get clean imaging. I also run a periodic script to set bitrate on my cameras in case a power off/on resets the rates. Dahuas seem to revert to a ridiculous, lower bitrate if they lose power despite setting (and storing) bitrate...

IR Hot Spotting Low Tech Fix

A demo video showing what six layers of frosted 3M Scotch tape does on a PTZ that has bad hotspotting. I layer the tape on a piece of glass, lift off glass, trim to size and then apply over IR emitters.

IR Hot Spotting Low Tech Fix

BTW, if you ever need to remove old Scotch tape that is too brittle to peel, coat the tape with some Purell hand sanitizer and cover the gel with a piece of plastic wrap. Let the gelled alcohol soak in for 20-30 minutes. Thereafter, everyone pretty much wipes off without any effort. The key is...

IR Hot Spotting Low Tech Fix

Several of my cameras had pretty severe IR hot spotting. My fix was 4 to 5 layers of 3M Scotch Tape over the IR emitters. Super simple, reversible, quick, and cheap. Put several layers just over the emitter's, not the rest of the optical cover. Add more layers until the IR is diffused the amount...
