GDay @johnfitz The NVR model is definately correct, I believe it can have upto 16 cameras connected, but only has 8 PoE built-in ports. I never got around to putting more than 8 cameras. I initially intend to upgrade only the two front cameras, but eventually will upgrade them all to ColorVu...- geek7899

Hi all I have a 10 year old NVR, model DS-7616NI-E2/8P and 8 x Hik cameras. Most of the cameras are DS-2CD2335-I. ok, just saw your edit ...thanks I'm going to try setting up DNS on the router, but unsure if it will carry through as its being used as an access point only in WAN bypass mode. (all DHCP done by Netcomm Modem)- geek7899

Thats where I am stuck now,, and I presume thats where I will be stuck at even after setting up VPN server. So I want to sort this problem first and then look at VPN after that.- geek7899

Are you saying that if I run a VPN server, I wouldn't need DNS ? I do understand your efforts in warning people about the pitfalls of port forwards. Setting up VPN is for another day. My modem (Netcomm NF7) doesn't support VPN tunneling, but I do have another Asus RT-AC86U router in WAN Bypass...- geek7899

Tried it in Edge. Didn't work. same problem - doesnt save the credentials in Network tab. Tried to install IE11, and it wouldn't install because "a more recent version of IE is already installed on your computer" Going to access the NVR now and enter details directly... will update on how it... -

Bummer ! With regards to upgrading: My NVR is from Aliexpress. Looking at the details in original post, would you know if there is a English language firmware available for this model of NVR ? If it can be safely upgraded, I might attempt that
