I was a Trump supporter - voted for him (or against Hillary). I think this virus has finally tipped the scale for me. There is an old saying, "Crisis brings out the character in leadership".

However, claiming that Messonnier's intention was to "deliberately create market panic" is a tad different than simply "reminding" us that everyone has bias. If this charge were to be true then such an action would be treasonous and therefore -- as a result -- I'm wondering if your not being disingenuous. Am I missing something?

You are twisting my words. I did not say that was her intention. I said she circumvented the adminstration and her comments caused market turmoil.

Dr. Messonnier, was not wrong in her prediction - but undermining the administration by preventing a unified response by the commander in chief at the appropriate time, thereby deliberately create market panic to harm a political enemy, must be at least considered motive.

Perhaps I could have worded it better, but the intent is this... Don't take ANYONE's words at face value. There is always bias, and if toxic enough, it motivates people to do and say things that are beneficial for them, but to the detriment of the public. She did undermine the administration by going rogue. Was it for purely altruistic "gotta warn the people" reasons, or was it because it was a good way to make POTUS look bad? I am simply saying it would be naive to not also consider the latter as motive.

I'm in the same boat as you - though I have not given up on him yet. But, having followed the progression of the virus since mid-January, I wondered why the media wasn't covering it at all until mid-Feb. It was because they were also do "distracted" by the impeachment hearings. However, as soon as he started making his first public claims that it was under control, and the flights from China were stopped, the MSM found their next pathway to thump Trump. Like someone flipped a switch, the "you can't stop the Chinese from coming in! That's racist and xenophobic" they cried in unison.

Where Trump gravely miscalculated was his portrayal that the US had it under control - that his actions of shutting down flights from China saved us. Each time he said that, I thought, "this is the hill he is choosing to die on". It was a statistical certainty that the US would explode with cases. In fact, I knew that back in late January when I first started this thread (84 pages ago!).

I figured he's either being given bad info, he's deliberately lying, or he's trying to avoid panic. But one thing was certain... those comments would haunt him. And your video absolutely makes that point.

But the reality is, all leaders lie when it gets bad. With few (if any) exceptions, all nations that are going through this predictable path of outbreak did the same thing. Avoid panic. Panic is worse than the virus. Lie to the people, keep them distracted. That all works great until Italy has 700 people die in a single day (vs. 400 for ALL of last year from the flu). I was just hoping Trump would be different.

It is great that we the people will be allowed to judge those in office soon!
( I wish those in China also had this option.. )

And good to start looking closer at the facts and actions by those leaders.

Unfortunately, imho Biden would have not done better. If he will be the only option then I think many of us will again pick the "lesser evil"

Trump is not the lesser evil. He did a great job prior to this (great is an understatement) despite unprecedented criminal and political operations to stop him. He did great during this epidemic as well. I love all the back seat drivers who think they could do better. If we use the far left socialist reasoning for not allowing home schooling for kids because poor children would not have access to it, perhaps they would argue that no one should get treatment for covid. All die equally.

I was just gong to add this. While his incorrect/misleading comments up until now are disheartening, we have to step back and look at the totality of his leadership. He has accomplished more than any recent president. Pick a variable, and it's better. And that was despite constant 100% negative press and backstabbing, leaking holdovers. The guy is a billionaire, used to a lifestyle of doing whatever, whenever. Imagine the colossal downgrade in his quality of life having to deal with being president. Imagine the daily grind of being smeared relentlessly with false accusations and fake news. I would have given up and said, "Take over Mike" long ago. Dude has a drive and fortitude that is unmatched.

That is very misleading. I would be very embarrassed to have posted that. They left out a bunch of positives that President Trump has been doing. They left out the banning of travel from China on January 31. The left out the quarantine bases set up for those citizens coming back into the country who had the Chinese virus and those who were in contact with. They left out the ban of travel from Europe. They left out the government/private enterprise partnership to whip this thing. They left out all the red tape the President has cut so that things will happen more quickly. I am sure others can add to the list but that is just off the top of my head.THANK GOD THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP IS IN CHARGE IN THESE PERILOUS TIMES.

An old timer I know just scootered over to where I'm working on my tractor and said his brother died of Corona yesterday. It is a suspected case. Went to the hospital Wednesday, died yesterday, he'll get his test results Monday but I suspect he won't care. In fact, I was told he can't have a burial but had to be cremated.

Apparently he got it in church a couple of weeks ago. Was told the church is in the news a lot in Georgia because a lot of church members are now suspected of having Corona.

Italy has a high number of elderly people, especially in the northern area, from what I've heard. Their hospital system has crashed and they can't treat anyone effectively any more. They are in a very bad situation. We could end up like that, but I don't think so given our medical system, even with all its faults, and the "social isolation" going on. There may be pockets like we've seen in the Seattle area and also, possibly, in New York City. In NYC's case, that will probably more due to the sheer number of people in such a relatively small area.

Perhaps a prime risk-factor in America will be the extremely high prevalence of obesity in our society, along with the fact that American healthcare has kept many alive who may have otherwise passed. I don't see a lot of fat people in videos or photos taken in China...but when I go to BJ's Wholesale Club on a Saturday it's seems to be a mecca for obese unhealthy Americans whose carts are loaded up with Captain Crunch and Yoddles. Gotta love it: American print, broadcast TV, cable, and internet media sells Americans a diet guaranteed to make them unhealthy and when they get sick the same media channels sells them the drugs to remediate the ills caused by the diet they were previously sold.

From what I can tell based on my cursory look at the graph of Italy vs USA it looks like we are about 5 or 6 days behind Italy. I was looking at the break in the curve where it starts to rise sharply. For Italy that was March 11.
