Trouble setting motion detection settings

3619B64C-DEA0-4DE5-A879-280310B176ED.jpeg i can’t seem to eliminate false detection alerts. I set the motion zone to be only the driveway. I turned the sensitivity down and the threshold up. The cars passing on the road headlights seem to be the trouble. I have also set up the IVS trigger at the edge of the driveway.

Should I give up on the motion this close to the road?
 
Using standard MD is always going to be a tradeoff, without the use of a PIR based sensor you're not going to completely eliminate false alerts and still get good coverage. I use MD on my driveway cams and dont mind that I get maybe 25 or so passing cars each night. Frankly on my little cul-de-sac street I kinda like knowing what passed through the neighborhood while I slept.

I also use IVS Tripwire which isnt perfect either. But I think if you tweek enough you can get it to acceptable limits.
At night where I want the most coverage, I use both, during the day I use only Tripwire.

I guess I'm one who would rather get the false alerts than miss a potential "real" one. Its just another few seconds of swiping and deleting an email over coffee.

For instance the clip below: Nobody stepped onto my property, thus a "false alert" right? Yet it was nice to know that their was Police activity the next morning when I reviewed snapshots from my email

3F788626-696F-419E-A16E-BC52ADC44467.png Got it working much better. Moved the cars out if the driveway and did thr motion zones more accurately adjusted threshold and sensitivity. A cat and crow set it off, but no more false alerts. A card did drive by and used a a foot or so of my driveway for a U turn and I got an email.

I added the porch camera today. I want to add a few peep hole cameras at chest height to get faces. On on the garage and one by the front door. Then maybe another eyeball on the walk.

I did three on the driveway to make sure I get in between cars when there are two in the drive.
 
I should have added that I set a dedicated gmail address for motion alerts. Keeps my personal, school, work email accounts clean.

Your video looks great! What settings do you use for the night time on ur cam? I have a similar driveway, and can never get my cam to look that good.
 
This is a HDCVI camera (3231E-Z) but nothing special actually, it's mostly a result of placement, 7.5 ft - lower than most, which gives great depth, and lots of white light including that street light. 1/50, 3DNR at about 50%, and no WDR at night.

Ok new trouble noted last night@ FOG! The 5231 goes into IR/Night mode because it is furthest away from the flood lights. A few 100 emails later.. How do avoid this?

Certain times of the year though if Fog is expected, I'll turn off MD on a couple of cams I know are succeptable before I go to bed. I usually have Tripwire or another cam cross covering anyway.

No way to prevent fog. It just sucks.
 
Sorry for ANOTHER question/issue.. I reduced my motion sensor zones/sensitivity and am relying more on trip wires. Today I started getting a bunch of false alerts and realized it was reflections in the windows of the car. I assume that there is no fix? Maybe turn off motion during the day (or at least before noon when the sun creates these images)??ch01_20181113_092523_E.jpg
 
No 100% solution. I use Tripwire only during the day, Both tripwire and MD at night. (on the driveway) I still get alerts from a big oak tree's shadows when its windy using Tripwire. All you can do is experiment and minimize the false alerts. As mentioned, the real fix is external PIR sensors.

You might try Intrusion Zones, I had better luck with those, unfortunately the 1 year old 4208-8P-4KS2 NVR only supports Tripwire? Go figure Dahua and their inconsistent firmware releases. :confused:

Intrusion zones allow you to draw a box, coupled with experimenting with target sizes can give you better control.

(EDIT- apparently I was looking for the NVR above during a glitch in the Matrix, as it appears to be back on the Dahua site as before.)

Do you recommend any specific external PIR sensors that work with the Dahua cams? I was thinking of adding one to my front porch.

The camera would need alarm inputs and you would need to bring power to the sensor. Some NVR's have alarm in as well.
