Yes they are, but you can usually go faster shutters indoors due to IR reflection bounce off of the walls.

Thank you. Just found this thread too which was a big help in understanding the shutter speed range in ms vs the fractional shutter speed that I am used to seeing.

So left in auto, it seems the shutter speed is so slow at night that any cars driving past is a streak, can't even tell the make/model or SUV vs Sedan.

I'm using 2 starlight lite cameras 0.007/0.008 lux The street light is actually sufficient to get the camera to run in color mode up to 1/250 or 1/500 if I force them in manual mode but even 1/500 shutter is too slow (over exposed) during the day.

1) anyway to set a shutter "floor" so that it can have a faster shutter during the day but will not go slower than a pre-defined shutter speed at night by auto-adjusting gain instead?

You need more zoom at that distance.

Digital zoom only works in Hollywood.

If that is the distance you want to IDENTIFY, you need to cut that field of view down at least in half.

FYI I run all of my 4MP cams at 10,240 bitrate CBR
 
I need to work on dialing in the night settings a little more, I think the day is pretty good. I'm not sure I could ever pause a Reolink feed from this far and read this plate so clearly...daytime settings below as well if anyone thinks I should change anything

Looks good.

You shouldn’t need NR to be that high in the daytime. 35 should be more than enough.

And as @wittaj mentioned, if you want positive facial ID and high success with plates, you should consider more zoom

It’s always tempting to do too many things with a single camera but usually one eventually comes to the conclusion that you need 2

Anyone have any suggestions to eliminate these alerts for vehicle shadows?

Currently I have it split into zone A and B and the line is at the grate across the driveway and I have my pushover alerts set only to send if the motion is on my side of the driveway grate. However, some shadows still cross the grate and make my pushover alerts go crazy early in the AM.

I would say for the front cameras on the house I would like to be able to identify at the street distance with at least 1 camera and then the others on the front to monitor. The back/side cameras would be fine to monitor.

Turn off MD/SMD and use tight IVS rules.
