Looking to upgrade our system

We purchase a home with BI installed so I have been working through issues when I have time.. I am looking to upgrade our system as we run a total of 11 cameras two of which are ptz’s and are running extremely slow. What is everyone’s thoughts on the following system from Best Buy? It is a gaming system but is more beneficial than what the previous owner paid back in 2015. I was told by BI support that the system looks good but see what other BI users recommend and to see what they are using. We do have high mp cameras they have become so slow very laggy especially when more than one camera is triggered and recording. The PTZ’s become inoperable when recording. As a side note the niveda card we have is dated and there are no updates for it. Thanks for your feedback! Please bear with me as I am learning this system when I have time. Most things I have been able to accomplish but I find it fun lol

Post what system specs you have and what system you are looking at Best Buy. I wouldn't personally buy a computer from Best Buy for Blue Iris as it's probably overkill and overpriced for what you need.

Hello again. Here is our operating system. we are working with. Bi 5.2.2.2, windows 8.1 Pro, intel processor i3-4160 3.60ghz, men 8.0gb 7.36 usable, 64 bit operating system. We were using BI 4 then upgraded to BI 5. Here is what tech support stated “
Thanks ... at this point the 2 versions are very different in the way they handle video decoding. Nvidia drivers must definitely be updated, the version working in version 4 likely will not work in version 5.

There are a couple of people now unable to use Nvidia decoding after the 5.2.2 update. This again may require newer drivers. The Nvidia 1040 I am using here for testing is still operational, and this is not a universal issue. I am still putting together some clues fro users. What model card to you have? What do you see in status/messages as far as initialization errors?”
At this point we would have to roll back to the old version but the system is so old I would just rather start from scratch. I have taken two cameras offline which has not helped at all, adjusted frame rates, etc. When one camera records then it spikes from 95-100% freezes and shuts down. I have done all recommended troubleshooting by BI for the RAM shooting up. We are running 11 Lorex cameras on this unit two being PTZs. I do have to get the specs of the cameras, etc.

I would recommend going with HP elite desktop (tower if possible) with at lease an I7-6700 or better processor with at least 16GB memory. At least a 250 GB SSD and a 8TB purple WD drive. Just buy the computer system and add the SSD and the WD purple drive. Look at ebay. My current BI machine came from EBAY.

What is the MP/SEC for your current load.?

look at what other processors are doing, Look at the MP/Sec and the CPU load.

Once again. Post your load. What resolution? What frame rates. You dont need an nvidia card. Its a powerhog. If you dont post the information asked you cant get a proper response. There is absolutely never a reason for water cooling.

I just recently updated to an HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Small Form Factor system with Core i7-6700 and 16GB RAM. It has a 500 GB SSD and an 8 TB WD Red hard disk drive. With ten cameras (mostly 2 MP Dahua Starlights) it's barely pushing 20% to 25% CPU load at any given time. My system cost less than $300 on eBay. I had to get a PCI adapter card for the SSD, but that was ridiculously inexpensive from amazon.

Hi guys.. so here is what I have. Please excuse me if I have left something out that you requested as I am working on homeschool a kindergartner and and a second grader on top of working but we all have our crosses to bear. Lol. I’m sure there is something I missed. Now remember out of 12 cameras we do have 2 offline so we have some recording that can take place where needed. I have lowered the resolutions greatly to accommodate all 11 but then noticed it didn’t help that much. I am great full for all of your feedback and help! This forum has been a savior!

If possible provide a screen shot of the camera video configuration in the camera, This should have frame rate, resolution, codec, bitrate type......

On screen shot please use the windows 10 snip tool. Phone camera pictures are hard to read and are missing some information.

I would also recommend that you reduce the frame rate on the 3.9MP cameras to 15 FPS from 20 FPS, this change is made in the camera not in BI.

In 2nd screenshot is this system running unlicensed? On mine it shows a masked version of license key. If this is unlicensed, buying a license here on these forums could entirely fix your problems by allowing direct-to-disk.

It looks licensed to me and it expired 9/21/2020... Not sure about the license key, but you should never show the license key

I thought maybe because it didn't show any License Key (next to "License Key: ") in the screenshot it might not be licensed and therefore not benefiting from direct-to-disk. At least in Version 4, my key shows there but the entire middle portion is masked with XX's, maybe it doesn't work the same in version 5.

Version 5 is totally different. That’s direct from BI
