Title: DS-KH8520 master rings, KH6320 indoor extensions do NOT ring (live view works) – Private Protocol

Hi all,

I’m troubleshooting a Hikvision villa intercom system and I suspect I’m missing something simple in indoor-extension registration/binding.

Setup

Master indoor station:

  • DS-KH8520-WTE1
  • IP: 192.168.100.14
  • Firmware: V2.1.2 build 191118
  • Private Protocol enabled
  • Room/Call No.: 1
  • Floor No.: 1

Indoor extensions:

1. DS-KH6320-TE1/EU
IP: 192.168.100.13
FW: V2.1.2 build 191118
Type: Indoor Extension
Extension No: 1
Main Indoor Station IP: 192.168.100.14

2. DS-KH6320-WTE1
IP: 192.168.100.15
FW: V2.1.2 build 200528
Type: Indoor Extension
Extension No: 3
Main Indoor Station IP: 192.168.100.14

3. DS-KH6320-WTE1
IP: 192.168.100.17
FW: V2.1.2 build 200528
Type: Indoor Extension
Extension No: 5
Main Indoor Station IP: 192.168.100.14

Door station:

  • DS-KD8003-IME1/EU
  • IP: 192.168.100.18
  • FW: V2.0.8 build 191120
  • Main station IP: 192.168.100.14
  • Private Protocol

Problem

Only the master (.14) rings when someone presses the doorbell.

Indoor extensions (.13 / .15 / .17) do NOT ring at all.

However:

  • Live view from the door station works on all indoor extensions
  • All devices are online and reachable
  • Ping works
  • Same subnet / static IPs
  • Door station rings master perfectly
  • Extensions are configured as Indoor Extension
  • Main Indoor Station IP on all extensions = 192.168.100.14

Important observations

  • Master device management sees the door station (.18), but indoor extensions do not show up as related devices
  • Wizard on master only finds the door station
  • Auto-search on indoor stations shows devices with status “Activate”, but not clearly registered
  • Rebooting all indoor extensions changed nothing
  • Online firmware update failed with: “No available upgrade package found”
  • Internal dialing tests (0-1 / 0-3 etc.) failed with messages about number/host-IP conflicts

Questions

1. In a KH8520 + KH6320 Private Protocol setup, should the master explicitly contain an indoor extension list / registration table for .13/.15/.17?

2. Is it normal that an extension only shows:
“Main Indoor Station = 192.168.100.14”
or should the master also explicitly register every extension?

3. Does this sound like:

  • missing indoor-extension registration/binding on the master,
  • room/call numbering mismatch,
  • call linkage/group setting,
  • firmware incompatibility,
  • or something obvious in KH8520 private protocol setups?

I’m intentionally NOT resetting, changing passwords, removing devices, switching protocol, or changing firmware before understanding the root cause.

Any installer insight would be highly appreciated.

I would start by gradually updating entire system

Door station to 2.2.62 build from 24´

and indoor stations to 2.2.108

Then all it should work stable

Question:

Given that firmware is updated and the wizard detects the devices but registration is not persistent, what should be the next engineering step? Would you recommend factory reset of the master (.14) only, or is there another registration/authentication step we are missing?

I would do a factory restore on all of the devices after such huge firmware jump.

After setting extension settings with master IP and registration password. It should auto register on master.

Hi trempa92,

Thanks for the advice. I followed it and it solved the issue.

After the firmware upgrade, the indoor extensions were no longer properly registered. I reset the indoor stations, configured them again as Indoor Extensions, entered the master IP and registration password, and re-ran the extension registration on the master.

All three extensions automatically registered and now the door station rings every indoor station again. Hik-Connect is also working correctly.

Your recommendation was exactly what fixed it. Thanks for the help.

Title: Hikvision DS-KH8520 Error 10706 when viewing NVR cameras – looking for root cause and solution

I have a Hikvision intercom and CCTV setup that is now working perfectly, but I have never been able to view the CCTV cameras on the indoor stations. I am looking for a technical explanation and a proper solution.

My setup:

Indoor stations:

  • Master indoor station: DS-KH8520-WTE1/EU
  • Firmware: V2.2.96 build 241028
  • Indoor extensions:

* DS-KH6320-TE1/E
* DS-KH6320-WTE1
  • All extensions work correctly.
  • Intercom calls between indoor stations work.
  • Doorbell calls ring all indoor stations.
  • Hik-Connect works correctly.

Door station:

  • DS-KD8003-IME1/EU
  • Firmware: V2.0.8 build 191120
  • Works correctly.

NVR:

  • DS-7616NI-K2
  • Firmware: V4.30.61 build 210313
  • Encoding version: V5.0 build 210122

Cameras:

  • Camera 1: IP 192.168.100.11 (front driveway)
  • Camera 2: IP 192.168.100.12 (back garden, currently physically disconnected for testing)
  • Camera 3: IP 192.168.100.18 (door station/intercom camera)

Network:

  • All devices are on the same subnet (192.168.100.x).
  • NVR IP: 192.168.100.19
  • Indoor master IP: 192.168.100.14
  • All devices are reachable and online.

Symptoms:

  • This feature has NEVER worked since the original installation, approximately 4 years ago.
  • On the DS-KH8520 I added three network cameras:

* 1. Oprit (Driveway)
* 2. Tuin (Garden)
* 3. Intercom
* Configuration:

* Device Type: Camera
* Getting Stream Mode: Direct
* Manufacturer Protocol: HIK Protocol
* IP Address: 192.168.100.19 (NVR)
* Port: 8000
* Username: admin
* Correct password entered
* Channel No.: 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

Results:

  • The indoor station accepts and saves all three entries.
  • Hik-Connect immediately shows the newly added camera tiles under the indoor station.
  • However, opening any of them gives:

"Starting live view failed.
Error code: 10706."

This happens for ALL three channels.

Additional findings:

  • iVMS-4200 on Windows can communicate with the NVR.
  • Live view from the NVR works in iVMS.
  • The indoor stations themselves are functioning perfectly.
  • The Mac version of iVMS reports the DS-KH8520 as:
"Unsupported device type."
  • We tested changing camera streams from H.265 to H.264.
  • We tested lower bitrate and lower resolution.
  • We tested both Main Stream and Sub Stream.
  • None of these changes resolved Error 10706.

My questions:

1. Does the DS-KH8520 officially support viewing channels from a DS-7616NI-K2 via "Direct" mode using HIK Protocol?

2. Should the NVR be added in a different mode (NVR/POE NVR instead of Camera → Direct)?

3. Is Error 10706 known to occur because of an SDK/protocol handshake mismatch between newer KH8520 firmware and older DS-7616NI-K2 firmware?

4. Should Virtual Host on the NVR be enabled and the individual cameras be added directly instead of using the NVR IP?

5. Has anyone successfully used a DS-KH8520-WTE1/EU (firmware V2.2.96 build 241028) with a DS-7616NI-K2 (firmware V4.30.61) to display NVR camera feeds?

6. If so, what exact settings did you use (protocol, stream type, ports, codec, channel mapping)?

Any technical explanation or proven configuration examples would be greatly appreciated, because this appears to be a compatibility issue that has existed since the original installation rather than a recent misconfiguration.

Hi again,

I made some progress. I found that the front camera is actually IP 192.168.100.11 (not the NVR at 192.168.100.19). The NVR is a DS-7616NI-K2 and iVMS-4200 has been logged in for years, so I can fully access Remote Configuration and view all cameras.

However, I do not know the admin password of camera 192.168.100.11. The browser login says the device locks after 6 failed attempts. "Password Set" requires the old password, and the NVR user settings also require the admin password.

I also noticed that the NVR marks the admin password security as "Risky", suggesting it may be a simple password.

Is there any safe way to recover or retrieve the camera password from iVMS-4200 or the NVR without resetting the camera or NVR?

Thanks again for your help. :::

No You cannot retrieve password. You will need to do password reset and re add to NVR with new password.

But you can add camera via NVR

Just add Ip address of NVR, user name, password, port(554) and when it asks for channel you start with 1, then next add its 2 and so on

On NVR under security, set RTSP digest/basic
