Hiho,

Could someone briefly explain to me what the difference between the two modes in Hikvision Cams is?

Monitoring mode:
50 Hz: up to 50 fps (2688 × 1520, 1280 × 720), up to 100 fps (1920 × 1080)
60 Hz: up to 60 fps (2688 × 1520, 1280 × 720), up to 120 fps (1920 × 1080)

*High frame rate is supported under monitoring mode only.

smart mode:

50 Hz: 25 fps (2688 × 1520, 1920 × 1080, 1280 × 720)
60 Hz: 30 fps (2688 × 1520, 1920 × 1080, 1280 × 720)

Greetings

Dany

Monitoring mode basically gives you higher frame rates (up to 100/120fps at 1080p)
but it doesn’t allow all the smart features. Smart mode caps the frame rate (25/30fps depending on 50/60Hz)
so that analytics like motion detection, smart events, etc. can run reliably.
