Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Question: Can the PRO's DC power output support an external 4 watt IR illuminator? The first-cut answer is "maybe". My fixed-focus PRO did power the illuminator OK in a short test. The data is:
No load output voltage: 11.5
Illuminator off via its photocell: voltage 11.3, current 6ma.
Illuminator on: voltage 10.9, current 332 ma.

The illuminator is a CMVision IR-40 that in reality draws 3.6 watts. The 332 ma. is double the camera's continuous spec of 165 ma, but well below the peak spec of 700 ma. The next question would be (1) Will the camera sustain the 300+ ma draw indefinitely?, and (2) If it does, will it cause any damage? My guess is that it depends on the how the circuitry is implemented in the camera, which I will likely never know. If that 165 ma. spec is specifically for the power output circuitry, it might well be a problem. If it's just part of the camera's overall power capability and the camera's built in LED are shut off, it would cause no problem at all. The only way I know to get the final answer is to try it and see how the camera holds up over a couple of years.

Dammit.
I updated to the FW Andy sent me 1028 and now the Smart illumination doesnt work and you have to dial sharpness back to 10-15 at night because its otherwise a noisy mess.

Andy recommend you hold off on anymore FW changes based on daytime still pics.

Is there any way to get back the July FW it came with? It worked great

Is that the one on Andy's site? I downloaded it today.

Yes, i will check with the engineer if something is wrong, and if you have video please share to me, DAV file is the best.

IR light comparison of 5442 S2 and 54PRO, both 3.6mm, shutter range 0-3 ms., cameras about a foot apart.

These 3 images are from the 54PRO.
Top image, the 5442's IR light running at 100%. The center hotspot does help light up the distant fence.
Middle image, 54PRO IR light running at 100%. Definite improvement, reduced hotspot and better lighting at the edges of the FOV.
3rd image, 2x 4-watt illuminators aimed apart to reduce hotspot and cover the entire FOV. The best contrast and detail.

Comparison of 5442 S2 and 54PRO static images with the 54PRO IR running at 100%. 5442-S2 on left.
The 54PRO definitely looks better. When a cat walked through I saw no difference in motion blur. Doing the same comparison in bright daylight I frankly saw no difference.

Finally, comparison with the 54PRO's white light at 100%. Even though the PRO picture is way better, I have a feeling it might not pick up an animal walking through.

Andy, are you going to carry any of the IL-series cameras? About how much less would they cost, compared to the PRO?

Hmm.
i have checked yesterday. Smart illu is working fine.

Its bit noiser now at night yes.
Looks like they reduced some software shit they included make details go away. Now details are back.

Will check again later.

nothing dialed in, with floodlight

think we made a huge improvement according to sharpness now
comparison between 0828 and 1028

need to check bit more, cropped and increased resolution

Only briefly had chance to check the 1028 but I am sure in the daylight it looks better, at night not too much change but I see some frames at night in colour that look quite nice, very very fine noise which I like, retains detail in those situations as mentioned above. Very happy to see more of that fine noise if the details stay. Will test and check through footage more in the next few hours. Noise is not a bad thing, in photography world I will always always take some fine or minor noise if it means more detail :thumb:

All five T54PRO's are now in place.

One new (front of house on left, looking right), one replaced 5442 S2 (front right, looking left), and replaced three 5231's (back corner, looking up left side of house (driveway); other back corner, looking up right side of house; back right corner, looking at full backyard).

It was not an easy swap because the T54PRO wiring harness is very different. I needed to extend the Ethernet cable a few inches on 3 of the 4 replacements. Thankfully I had slack in the ethernet cable in the basement that I could feed through, though I needed to totally unwrap and rewrap the protective covering to extend the cable, which took some time, but all done now!

I also replaced all four of the old PFB203W's with PFB2203W's. Yes I could have drilled new holes, but wanted a clean new setup with the proper threaded holes. I also handled the wiring harness differently for the four new T54PRO's. I wrapped every connection in electrical tape except the Ethernet connecter, and then folded them all together in a plastic baggie and wrapped that in electrical tape. I then took the entire baggie and stuffed it in the PFB2203W with only the Ethernet connecter protruding outside of the PFB2203W. It's only extends a few inches, thus why I need to extend the old Ethernet cable to reach the connecter. All five T54PRO's are completely installed and protected now, all set for winter.

All 5 have their varifocal adjusted to mostly match the previous zoom. Front left zoom 930, Front right 1773, Driveway 1260, Other Side 2426, Backyard 1265. I did notice that the side that's set to 2426 is the maximum and I could not get it to match the 5231 which was further zoomed, it's fine but I would have liked it slightly more zoomed to match, but again it's fine.

All five are now running the new 10/28 firmware, and to start ... running in self-adaptive mode ... again, just to get started before I start tweaking. Wanted to see what auto mode looks like. I also have AI SSA set on all 5, but not sure that's a good thing, wanted to see how the cameras adjust themselves.

The five cameras give mostly a 360-degree view of the property, with the two front cameras also providing a look down the street both right and left. There's now only a few very small blind spots on the property, where one camera doesn't overlap another.

IVS Tripwire's are setup to Synology Surveillance Station recording 24x7, with snapshots saved at every IVS trip, which I review daily. It's setup mostly for humans only, but the driveway is also setup for cars. I did some initial testing last night and all was fine except the backyard camera kept missing the IVS a few times when I crossed, not sure why yet. I set all up at 8 sensitivity, but was still struggling with the tripwire in the backyard, really weird, not sure why yet. I've had 100% success with IVS previously, though finally no cats and squirrels!

I initially set all five cameras to 24x7 Color and it was wild how bright the two side cameras and the backyard were compared to the 5231's, but that was a complete failure. :) It dropped the frame rate to below 13FPS at night and when I walked around the house last night the video was terrible with motion, just not enough light especially on one of the sides. I've now set all five to AUTO mode for Day/Night, which did darken the picture slightly and it then totally switched the one side to IR at night. I also started playing with the setting to turn on the light for 15 seconds when the Tripwire is crossed between 9pm-6am for the two side cameras and the backyard.

Today it's raining so no glare, will let things settle in and rest today, and then start tweaking, with all the great advice in this thread. It was a long day yesterday.

Wish I had one of you experts to just come over and set these five up to be perfect!

While I'm very computer/networking experienced (my profession), video hasn't been my thing, at least not yet.

Thanks again for all of the help here.

Well after 3 factory resets I have 10/28 FW working as far as image. I guess it’s better? All a matter of settings

As far as the Smart Ilum I’ll try again tonight.

Oh and my IVS isn’t working. Rules set, showing active, but I can walk through them and no activation… I’ve gone over everything many times and have setup IVS a few thousand times over the years so not sure what’s up with that.

* I will note that I did not have any bourbon during this setup so will add some Weller 12 y/o to the mix this evening and see if it helps.

Yeah, same here with IVS that I referenced above. The IVS tripwire in the backyard kept missing last night with initial testing. Never ever had this issue before.

I also brought my laptop outside, while watching the LIVE view logged into the camera. The outline shows around my body, so it knows it's a human walking, but then I crossed the Tripwire line and it didn't flash red.

Sometimes it worked and other times it didn't. Weird, it knows it's a human. I need to figure this out. I did raise the sensitivity from 5 to 8 but that didn't change anything. I need to get this 100% perfect.

Anyone have any success showing the LIVE view with IVS showing on an iPhone? What browser?

Firefox on a MacBook has been perfect for me, but I wanted to walk around the house watching the LIVE view showing humans outlined, but I could not get any iPhone browser to show the LIVE video while logged into via browser. This is why I just walked around with my MacBook for initial testing.

Sounds like you had some work on there! with an IT/networking background, you will be fine tuning these in, work on one first then dial those settings to the other once happy. Tweak from there, normally you will get similar settings for most with minor adjustments for night depending on location and assistive ambient.
