Currently I have 9 cameras running to a Hikvision DS-7616NI-I2/16P. 2 8MP cameras, 1 wireless doorbell (Nelly NSC-DB2), and the rest are 4MP. I recently updated network to unifi and have seen a lot of love around unifi protect. I have tried a few devices with unifi protect, and while I love the idea of the Apple TV/iOS apps, it seemed a little finicky for use with my existing onvif cameras. I am looking to add 2 cameras and the doorbell. Ultimately wife acceptance factor/ease of use is high on my list. I am considering going full unifi with a UNVR or considering an NVR update for more advanced motion detection (I believe updated model would be the hikvision 7616NI-M2)
Questions
1. I see that most cameras now support on camera AI, so if I get a few new cameras that have AI built in, will my current 6 year old 7616NI-I2 NVR support these notifications or will I need to get a new 7616NI-MI to get the "on camera" detections?
2. I am having a hard time figuring out if there are any other significant benefits for a home user for the updated hikvision NVR when doing comparisons, are there any other benefits?
3. While this may be subjective, how would you compare a unifi UNVR with the hikvision NVR? (I do like that the unifi UNVR would not require internet connection to get iOS notifications, where as hikvision does require hik-connect. Also I like the Apple TV unifi app, but for now using CCTV viewer app on Apple TV works well enough). Cost wise the Unifi is $300, and the hikvision is $600, so I figure since I will update a few cameras I would get G6s and a doorbell with unifi which are a bit more than hikvision so cost is kinda offset (I'm just not willing to replace 9 cameras with unifi that are working, and the ai-key seems ridiculously overpriced for each camera).
