Camera recommendation for a wide area

You can install a lamp post at the red dot. Run underground 24vdc (if you did AC, you would have to get permit or something). I run my 24vdc lamp post on underground Cat6 cables fine & dandy for 4 years.
The extra throw of a light source being that far out even using 24vdc bulbs really would help things out for any camera for evening video & images. Garage <> entryway pathway looks to be 20'+. If you did that, could run 2 Cat6 cables out to post and 1 cables does the bulbs while the other cable does a camera.
I know... this is what I did :) final.jpgFrontyard x8 2021-01-03 08.45.04.223 PM.jpg

How does his IR not blow out the face? Higher shutter speed? Ext light? What about color mode? Is that the led?

It works trust me. It has both IR and white LED's

IR is Smart IR so it mitigates blowing out faces close-in.
Color mode is using the white LED's if you choose to based on movement

25ft to dock, 40ft to far left corner of dock

B&W IR Color turned off

sidenote: that is kinda awesome & cool you step off your back porch and have pond/lake after the first step :)

We have a lamp post, it's a decorate lamp post only and don't want to blast a bright light.

It looks great. The PTZ that I have has "SmartIR" too but blows everything out. It could be my settings too. I'm thinking this might be the one and center it more on the garage vs the edge. I can set the focal length on this? That is handy too.

Yes it’s adjustable but only 4x like most regular VF cameras. 12mm max lens.

If you're already got a ptz watching the driveway, then I'd be inclined to do what Hobs suggested and mount it on a post looking back towards the house. One of the issues of pointing cameras away from a property is people close up can walk under the cameras vertical field of view and anything they do then is uncaptured. They can alos come from the side outside of the horizontal field of view and walk under vertical all un-captured. Further, if you mount the camera on the garage, you'll never get evidence of anyone breaking in because they're outside the field of view when hard up against the buidlings. When you point a camera backtowards a building there are 2 advantages: 1 the field of view both horizontal and vertical becomes wider the closer to the building and further away from the camera you go. 2. You capture anything done to the building such as the act of breaking in. The only real way you can do this if you mount on the building pointing away, is to point cameras horizontally across the front and use multiple cameras and "cross them". So far as a post is concerned, you could put anything there and disguise it - a statue, ornament, build table etc.

My neighbours think I'm crazy having my back yard camera pointing back towards my house. But with their camera, it sees whats down the garden but can't see anything coming from the side or underneath the camera so will miss any actual break in only capturing people on approach and not if from the side leaving major blind spots. By contrast, my camera captures the whole house from floor to ridge line and it's entire width. The one thing people worry about is someone sneeking up to your camera un-noticed and taking it out. However, as you have a ptz looking out, this can't happen and it's very rare cameras are ever attacked. In fact most of the time they go un-noticed until too late anyway by Joe Average whoe's the opportunist or amateur thief. In a large property you might attarct someone more professional but as said you have ptz cover looking out so I wouldn't be concerned.

Nothing wrong with a camera facing the house, it does give you perspective.
But you can easily cover entries and see the activity

I ran 5 burial rated Cat6 cables in a 8" depth trench out to my light post. 1 of the Cat6 I am using for the 24vdc bulbs for the lamp post. Other Cat6 is in my falling apart birdhouse (had taken a beaten with these 50mph gusts with rain and snow over the years). This camera does not point towards the house but the driveway so I can get facial images or any other object images within 5-10. This was important for my tire-slasher event.
The 3 other spare... I plan on putting in a LPR (have bought, not yet installed), 1 camera actually pointing back towards house for perspective. and the last Cat6 for spare.

This is a night photo but also shows the power of pointing back towards a property. This is my rear yard which isn't approachable from behind the camera (normally anyway, alsway posisble with some fence etc climbing).

The advanatge is all the main breakin poins covered. With the camera pointing out mounted where the PIR sesnor is, much of the face of the building would be unprotected.
