Considering Intel NUC 5 i7 (RYH) for BI Server - feedback?

Have you considered a Dell OptiPlex USFF? They are very small, and can be bought for a fraction of what the NUC costs. - - - Updated - - - Or if you don't need something that's per se very small, a SFF, Desktop or Mini Tower would be a great idea also.

    Sighthound

That explains why I could not get that to work then. With Sighthound, I just right-click on a recording and I can save the MP4 file wherever.

Cannot beat the price either! I think Fry's was selling it for $40 something dollars a week or so ago.

Help me pick a new data drive for my BI system...

I have been using a 1TB Western Digital Black drive now for quite a few years, and zero issues. I have 6 720p cameras recording to it 24/7 and have allotted 500GB of the drive to recordings.

    Sighthound

I suppose so, but it was a complex piece of software. Definitely for the pros. Nice interface, and really liked how you can zoom in by drawing rectangles on the grid view. Super slick! I feel that I needed someone to really tweak it with me in order for it to be perfect. Many different...

    Sighthound

Appreciate the review ruppmeister. I've been using it for about a week and a half on my PC (after using XProtect Go and the Hikvision iVMS). My take: Positives: Easy to setup, very user friendly GUI Motion detection works VERY well and I like being able to set alerts based on humans vs...

    Amazon: buyer beware

If prices were only slightly higher than Chinese version, then that'd a no brainer. Did not know about AV Supply though. Had not heard of them. Hikvision doesn't exactly have an easy list of US companies that punters like us can order easily from.

    Amazon: buyer beware

I don't blame you. The Aliexpress vendors always explicitly tell you which firmware they will come with, and which language. Price seems to match Amazon most of the time.

    Hikvision Dealer

My research told me that warranties Hikvisions cost twice as much as Aliexpress versions. That's a huge difference just for a warranty. I bet some of us would rather run the risk of a camera breaking, then buying a fresh one and still coming out even. But then again, I bet you receive...

Hikvision camera admin password reset tool

Doing a reset using the reset button on the back of the camera reset the password. Not very secure if you ask me.

    Looking at a harddrive enclosure!

Why not just buy a Synology device or something? You can find them used locally on Craigslist if you're lucky, but otherwise eBay has them.

    Amazon: buyer beware

Have not had that happen to me yet, but yes, I always check on the reviews of the sellers instead of just going by the default (cheapest) option.

Reasons for not buying Chinese version cameras?

I remember reading that after a firmware upgrade, an owner saw better IR quality. Must have been an older camera though. If you bought recently, I would not worry.

Reasons for not buying Chinese version cameras?

Yeah, definitely not messing with firmware updates on these.

My hikvision camera works fine on 500 feet of cat 5?

Good feedback. At which lengths do I need to start thinking copper vs. stranded?

My hikvision camera works fine on 500 feet of cat 5?

Had the camera running inside, worked great. Then mounted it outside just for testing purposes. Worked great for roughly 12 hours. Then dropped, and could not bring it back to life. The IR lights would come on, I'd see it in SDAP for a few seconds, then it would drop off again. After a...

My hikvision camera works fine on 500 feet of cat 5?

I assumed perhaps the length of the cable (or the quality of the cable) screwed with the camera. Not using a PoE switch, just a TP-Link injector. Just wonder what made the camera break then.

My hikvision camera works fine on 500 feet of cat 5?

Camera was still stuck after using shorter cable in an endless loop of rebooting cycles. Only a hard reset using the button on the back of the camera fixed it. Running it with different, shorter cat5e now and running fine so far.

My hikvision camera works fine on 500 feet of cat 5?

That's odd, as I was having issues at 100 feet after run. Worked for half a day, then the camera went into an endless loop until I reset it.

Help DS-2CD2432F-IW not accessible at all.

Have you tried resetting the camera using the reset button on the back? I believe I read the correct way to reset the camera using that button somewhere on this forum. When my Hikvision was no longer seen by SADP, that did the trick.

Reasons for not buying Chinese version cameras?

I ordered on Amazon via Zoneway. Received my DS-2CD2032-I with firmware V5.2.5. Works perfectly, and all in English.

Looking at the switch I am looking at buying, it seems it is OK for up to 104F. It definitely gets warmer than that in mine during the summer!

    Another great capture

Nice capture. I wonder which cameras were used. They must have been rather small for the burglar not to notice them.

    Hikvision outdoor install

A very clean install. How was it pulling wires for the cameras? Or was the place already wired for them?
