    DS-2CD2132-I & DS-2CD2032-I reboot problem

To eliminate PoE from the equation, try plugging it into 12VDC and see if the problem continues or not.

    Hikvision Bullets on Amazon

I bought one of Amazon just to see and it was English, BUT, it had a China region code, meaning that next time you upgrade the firmware, it will revert back to Chinese. The same vendor also sells a true English version but charges a lot more for it. So if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

What is the de-bricking process for HIKVision camera and NVR firmware updates?

Is there a way to attached a serial cable to the NVR and get the console message form the boot loader?

    Camera Location Advice

Get a Google Map birds eye view of your home (or fly a drone up there and snap a pic). Print it out and use that to figure out camera location and lens FOV. Just draw straight lines out from each camera showing the field of view you want, measure the angle with a protractor and match that up...

Solar Power - Self Install or Not?

Don't know them, but I got a quote from a highly regarded supplier for self installs, Go Green Solar - http://www.gogreensolar.com. When I put together a system I wanted which is what was installed with name brand components, I could have saved $6K (before tax credit). They bid the project down...

    Cheap - 2032-l 3 pieces $185 if you dare

I got the refund for the xmas lights I never got. I ended up getting them from a U.S. source for $6 instead of $5 each. If I found him before, never would have bought from AE.

How many cams do you have at your residence?

Johnny, welcome to the this forum. Sorry about that Q6035-E but stop mounting it on tall metal poles, LOL.

Solar Power - Self Install or Not?

I paid about $16K after Fed tax credit. There's no rebates or incentives in California at this time.

I need to monitor one IP camera on one large (20-24") screen

I use an Android stick for this, works fine running Android camera viewing apps. About the same price as the Fire stick, but more pure Android. I believe with the Fire TV products, you are limited to shopping in the Amazon app store which is limiting.

    Dahua 3mp fixed eyeballs

They call bullet cameras Piñatas here. Half the cameras at home are Piñatas and the eyeball cameras are a great compromise between bullets and vandal domes.

Solar Power - Self Install or Not?

It's been a month with solar and I got my first bill. Since I started a week into the pay period, there's usage from that, but all tier 1, so $33. That's in contrast to my last December bill of $285. Because the days are short in winter and there's been some rain (I know, rain in so cal, who...

Bosch Dinion Starlight 8000 MP (NetworkCameraCritic) Video

The worst part of this camera is I have to give it back and go back to looking at my "ordinary" Hikvision, Axis and ACTi cameras ;) I thought about reviewing the Hik equivalent, the Darkfighter, but it's well over a grand by the time you put a lens and outdoor housing on it, not sure people...

    AXIS thermal network cameras

What may make sense is you start with the $249 Flir Thermal iPhone jacket. You use it to steal passwords and pins and then use the profits to pay for the $24K camera ;)

    AXIS thermal network cameras

The reason I don't review cameras like that is because of their limited appeal. Think about it, most here will kill to save $10 on a Dahua or Hikvision HD camera and these cameras start at $3,500 with 160x138 resolution and quickly go to $9K for VGA resolution. I thought about doing one on...

    exporting video. Codecs for GO

I haven't found tools that work at full frame rates. I use FastStone Capture and I get about 10fps on 30fps video. I had to use it to capture video from dashcams when I reviewed them to show what the viewer app looked like. Camtasia may be better, but it's also more expensive and if you can...

Bosch Dinion Starlight 8000 MP Review

I recorded to a 64gb microSD card and worked well. I did set it up with Milestone and the video was not as smooth as I would like, but did not spend time trying to troubleshoot it since I had the camera only on loan from Bosch. I don't think anyone has a camera like this with 30fps on 5MP and...

    Sony A7s: Low Light Demonstration

Not sure it's worth it. It's $700ish on AE as a box camera, no lens, no outdoor housing and it's only 1080P. Would be interesting to see how it compares to the 5MP Bosch Starlight 8000MP camera which considering it's 5MP at 30FPS, is really not that much more expensive than the Hikvision and...

    Cheap - 2032-l 3 pieces $185 if you dare

That seems like a great deal, $60 for the dream of getting a camera. I too fell for it with a seller with perfect reviews on something cheap, $5 for Christmas lights vi ePacket. I ordered 3 with 30 lights, got 1 with 20 lights a month later. They sent me a fake ePacket tracking number but came...

    Cables needed for ptz?

Use a voltage drop calculator, figuring 24v DC, 2 Amps - http://www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html Not sure how sensitive the cameras are, but I would shoot for less than a 5% voltage drop. 18 gauge is what is used for short extension cords, not 80'. You also don't have to run...

    Cables needed for ptz?

If you don't know, then run power wire for 24VDC, of course the gauge depends on how long a run. I tried Hik and Dahua PTZ and for IR, the Dahua is mo better. Also, for the ability to see above the horizon, an issue with some PTZ because as you zoom in, it becomes more and more difficult to see...
