    Finally got that bobcat...

It's what I'd used earlier to zero in the scope. I had bought tons of it years ago. It is cheap. That brass casing actually got stuck in the breach after it fired. Extractor ripped the edge off the casing. Had to push it out from the muzzle side with a cleaning rod. I suspect it's cheap...

    Morning Aurora (August 4, 2024)

That's so much more beautiful than the one we captured a few months ago that came further south than TN. Ours only lasted about 20 minutes and I couldn't see it with my naked eyes.

    Finally got that bobcat...

On the very last evening of the nighttime bobcat hunting season too, imagine that! It started as it usually does. Mr. Bobcat is visiting the all-you-can-eat chicken buffet bar... But while patiently sitting pretty (and still) looking for an opportunity, the...

    Everything likes chicken... even owls

If it's not bobcat, racoon, or coyote, it's owls. This Great Horned is particularly persistent. He's gotten at least 6 over the last month. I've had to keep them locked up 24/7 since then. This same owl managed to get into the run through an automatic door (before I had...

    Blue Iris UI3

Quick question about the convert/export list on UI3. When I export something, in the past, I could go to the "convert/export list" on UI3 and see what I've exported recently. Now, that list is always empty. If I don't save it immediately as a clip is finished exporting, it vanishes...

Coyote nabs one of my chickens - Thermal vs. Optical

Yes! And after watching a few YouTube videos, and spending some time at Rural King, the trap is set. Right at the spot where he surveilled the chickens. I set it about 2 hours ago. RK didn't have any coyote or bobcat lure, so I used red fox gland lure. I have the coyote stuff on order...

Coyote nabs one of my chickens - Thermal vs. Optical

I have one of those. It's darn near cheating. I gave my "night vision" IR-illuminated ATN scope away after going thermal.

Coyote nabs one of my chickens - Thermal vs. Optical

No offense taken. I'm grateful for suggestions.

Coyote nabs one of my chickens - Thermal vs. Optical

Yeah, that's where my "wet behind the ears" shows. I'm sure there are settings that aren't optimal. I just haven't had time to compare or do some fine tuning. I will have more time in the coming days. THanks for the suggestion on where to start.

Coyote nabs one of my chickens - Thermal vs. Optical

Admittedly I haven't had very much time with this thermal camera - so take my opinion for what it's worth... But, I think in this particular case, the thermal was magnitudes better for detection of the coyote during his surveillance phase. In fact, until it actually made its move in the optical...

Coyote nabs one of my chickens - Thermal vs. Optical

This was captured using the Dahua DH-TPC-BF5421 I picked up last week. I suspected I was losing chickens to predation. It helped justify the excursion into thermal cameras. Given the short surveillance time (<1 min), and the rather difficult location (no clean shot from the house), it will...

    TPC-BF2221-T

DOH! Rookie mistake... Apparently I have something else on my network that utilizes the same IP. I checked it to make sure no cameras were there (there weren't) but something is responding after changing to a new IP. That explains the intermittent responses. God I'm tired. ETA: The MAC...

    TPC-BF2221-T

Ugh. Guess it might just be too good to be true. I tried with the source set to 00100/00100. No dice. It's odd because about 1/2 the time ONVIF will pull the full details: And then it won't: I'm getting a socket error 10054/no signal on BI. Bummer

    TPC-BF2221-T

Well, for some reason my BI is not playing nice with the TPC-BF2221-HTM. I'm getting no signal, despite being able to view it directly on the camera's web page. IP is correct, ONVIF is discovering all features/protocols, but BI shows no signal/socket error. I've not seen that before. Tried...

    TPC-BF2221-T

Is there a way to tell what version it is (other than build date)? I'd be happy to look harder at it if it's possible. I just ordered a second. Looks like he has 3 left. 7 sold in last 24 hours. I imagine some of that is from here ;)

    TPC-BF2221-T

Well, I received it. It's unbranded on the camera and box, but the firmware is this: Web interface looks identical to the DH-TPC-BF5421 I bought last week. It came in a sealed bag. I offered $170 on the OBO on eBay and they accepted. So total price w/tax and shipping was $199. They...

Man, I am so glad I went with this. I've always wanted to know what the hottest part of my Mastiff was ;)

Thermal Grackles in the backyad. Added more T-Birds!

It arrived today and I installed it immediately to view the ingress for most predators. It's only been up for a couple of daylight hours, but I am very impressed. I didn't like the fact that it takes up two BI camera slots, and was happy to see that it does picture-in-picture, overlaying a...

Thermal Grackles in the backyad. Added more T-Birds!

I pulled the trigger for one that was 199. Figured it can't be THAT bad. I really just need it to spot coyotes and other predators around my coop. First toe dip into the thermal IP camera pool. I use my thermal scope to pop them regularly so getting a better heads up with this ought to...

Thermal Grackles in the backyad. Added more T-Birds!

I'm seeing the 5421 for sub $250 on eBay used. Would you recommend it at this price presuming it's fully functional?

[SOLVED] Encountered unexpected file [camera_name].reg; stopping

Ken said that the only files that should be in that directory are text files. Anything else and it'll choke

[SOLVED] Encountered unexpected file [camera_name].reg; stopping

Ken replied. Said I likely have something other than a txt file in the logs directory. Sure enough: I must have inadvertently backed up that camera to that directory. I'm guessing you have the same issue?

[SOLVED] Encountered unexpected file [camera_name].reg; stopping

Ok, email just sent to Ken. I updated to the latest version (I know, I know, bad to be on the bleeding edge) to see if it's been fixed. But it happened again last midnight. I'll post back when I hear from him.

[SOLVED] Encountered unexpected file [camera_name].reg; stopping

I had to double check. I'm pretty sure that at some point in the past I did save the logs to a NAS, but I must have changed it back to the local drive. Currently the path is C:\BlueIris\log\%Y %m.txt.... so it's most definitely on the OS SSD.

Nope... Getting them at midnight still as well. I'll send an email to Ken here once I get other fires put out.

[SOLVED] Encountered unexpected file [camera_name].reg; stopping

I changed phones, so I wasn't getting push notifications. Since I have system alerts set to notify when BI has errors, I thought - wow! I haven't had any restarts or errors in weeks! Well, checking logs today, I see both. What is the subject error? And what does "stopping" refer to...
