Need help watching elderly parents via cloud + BI

Yes, search for threads here that discuss TP-Link Tapo cameras (various models can do this, once an additional/optional setting is enabled in the interface under Advanced Settings, Camera Account). Edit: You may find that they are equally useful with simply a SD card installed (no BI passthough...

    AI: not responding

Yes, one thing to look for: there was a specific MS update (sorry , I don't have the exact KB # to reference at the moment) to .NET in January of this year that caused this mess on my system for a couple of days. I held off on the update for almost two months, then decided to install it, but had...

Yup...confirmed, a metal or plastic (high quality ones, but metal or plastic nonetheless). :)

    How to open a pipe

You're sure of that ;)? I'm pretty sure it's not glass, ceramic, or wood based, which effectively means it is some type of metal or plastic.

New (higher spec) CPU requirements for Windows 11 24H2

I can say that even a month ago (late January) it was extremely difficult to get a legitimate Win 11 23H2 iso installation, only 24H2 was available from Microsoft on any of the public facing download channels. I had to go through a very convoluted download and "build" processs offered through...

New (higher spec) CPU requirements for Windows 11 24H2

Interesting...especially given that Wine version 8.x was developed throughout 2023, the current (Feb. 2025) release version is 10.2. However, like you, I'm not in a position to test out BI on this.

New (higher spec) CPU requirements for Windows 11 24H2

Well, Microsoft just changed the CPU requirements to run Windows 11 24H2, which will be the only "supported" version by the end of this year (given the concurrent "retirement" or EOL of Windows 10 at about the same time). Those of us that bought 8th gen Intel machines in the last couple of years...

Camera ONVIF trigger alerts in Blue Iris - Considering using both IVS and Smart Motion Detection

Just be aware that using those newer "additive/exclusive" options turn what would traditionally be one (real-world, physical) event into many tiny (on the order of one second) events/alerts on the BI timeline. Bit of a bummer that it has no way to distinguish and combine them into one alert.

POE Cameras going offline everyday at the same time

First thing that comes to mind: do you really need a topology that forces all the camera feeds through the router before being distributed back out to the other devices? It seems like a direct cable link between the two switches might potentially solve this problem (unless you are using the...

    16 port switch rec

That's cutting it very close to the ragged edge. Basically your power budget is about 8W per camera under those parameters (115/14): fine in the daytime(3-4 W per camera), but right at the limit at night if using the on-board IR lighting (about 8W per camera). I wouldn't run it that close to...

    Helpful tip

Keep in mind that the kind of constant write activity that BI creates is considered a very "hard use" case in terms of SSD lifespan: ie, potentially quite detrimental to the long-term longevity of said SSD. All SSDs have a rated/expected lifespan in terms of terabytes written, you might want to...

    5.9.9 - January 17, 2025 - More Pre-6.0 feature releases

Anyone else notice or play with this new (I believe since 5.9.21) feature? I tried "Motion overlap only", thinking it might pickup more crossings, but it seemed to have even lower sensitivity than the default "Motion trigger and overlap". YMMV...

What is BI 5.9.9.20 doing every 2 minutes?

I believe the BI help file mentions that this anamorphic setting is automatically set (ie: checked) by BI when the substream and main stream profiles dont have exactly the same pixel ratios (horizontal and vertical ratio), which is essentially always, AFAIK.

Which nVidia GPUs are you using?

FYI, you can get a true (long term, since last restart of the CPAI service) running average inference time by clicking the "Info" button on the right side of the green status bar in the CPAI webpage, scroll down, lots of useful info there.

Has it been slow here lately?

Slow lately? Yes, I agree, but I'm sure things will pick up considerably once Ken drops BIv6, whenever that might be.

Now if we could just add back that wildlife capability to the firmware of the S2 5442 cameras :).

IPC-T54IR-ZE S3 Wall Mounting - Direct or Bracket?

??? "1/8" hole for the cable" ??? Are you sure about that? I've never run across an Ethernet cable smaller than 1/4" diameter, more commonly closer to 5/16" (or a more comfortable pass-through fit is 3/8" hole).

NVIDIA's $249 Secret Weapon for Edge AI - Jetson Orin Nano Super: Driveway Monitor : Dave's Garage

Ironically, I just watched this one shortly before you posted it. It briefly veers into camera AI applications, but without full details of image size being passed to the Nano, so processing times aren't very relatable. Also, does anyone know if CPAI has any support for this processor? It...

Create GIFs from alerts & clips; Send Pushover notifications with GIF attachments

Yes, I have been testing with .bvr (clip only, with AI .DAT files turned off entirely), and have definitely seen many of the jumpy GIF clips, where at least one frame comes from the beginning of the .bvr clip (which can be up to nearly an hour prior on my system, so quite noticeable). My total...

Create GIFs from alerts & clips; Send Pushover notifications with GIF attachments

Hmm, I haven't tested or changed anything yet, but I am fairly certain that my buffer times (om all cameras) are 12 seconds, pre-record time is 8 to 10 seconds, pre-trigger playback is 3 seconds. This might align with the notion that my GIF creation times run about 22-23 seconds (when done from...

Create GIFs from alerts & clips; Send Pushover notifications with GIF attachments

Well, I will have a lot to look at and adjust this evening when I get home: the biggest one being adding the -IgnoreDAT setting. But given your rapid development/insights into getting this right, you might just have a new script version to test very soon :). I'll keep you posted in the next day...

Create GIFs from alerts & clips; Send Pushover notifications with GIF attachments

Yes, for quite a while I was able to complete up through Step 4: a test send from the Powershell console would work fine, but nothing would work when testing directly in BI until I finally gave in and tried a reboot, then magically it started working. It's unfortunate we still don't have a way...

Create GIFs from alerts & clips; Send Pushover notifications with GIF attachments

@jaydeel Well after very successfully running the original (JPEG only) Pushover script for the last 1.5+years (maybe longer), I finally got around to testing this GIF version. It took me a couple of hours to get it working (Reminder: always reboot when testing, even if you think you have...

    Blue Iris OS Options

Hmm...perhaps the TPM module is disabled or turned off in the BIOS/UEFI settings, it might be worth checking IF you ultimately decide to migrate to Windows 11. As pointed out here though, it probably shouldn't be considered an absolute must, Windows 10 will likely be safe enough, particularly...

    Blue Iris OS Options

Odd, usually the minimum requirement for Windows 11 is an i5 or i7 8xxx series Intel chip (or similar vintage AMD CPU), these should have the TPM 2.0 chip. Are you sure Windows 11 won't install?

Distinguishing between motion events and alerts

Yeah, I'll do anything and everything I can to avoid the use of clone cameras: I find them to be an abhorrent kludge solution at best (at least for me, perhaps there are a handful of places where there is no other way). Edit: To clarify, yeah clones are an easy way to fine tune the alerts, but...

Distinguishing between motion events and alerts

Ironically. I finally got around to setting this up yesterday on one of my cameras, based on your original postings of these instructions on Feb.7th this year, shortly after BI 5.8.5 was released. So far, I'd have to call it a qualified/partial success. I have a few IVS rules (Intrusion box and...

    Camera Alert Image Details

As a test, you might want to experiment with having one zone that essentially covers the entire field of view (or nearly all), with smaller zones acting as the trigger area. BI does track objects moving across zones, and this may be needed to insure that the AI can process the larger field of...
