    B54PRO-Z4E first impression

The past two nights it has been very foggy, so fine tuning the adjustments has been put on hold for a while. The tonal range of the camera looks good, so I have been trying some small adjustments with the gamma setting to see what kind of effect it has on the image. I was testing it out on this...

Are you running the 8/27 firmware that the camera came with, or are you using the 10/28 beta firmware?

To put the settings in context, here is a clearer look at the setup. I have the camera zoomed to "302." It effectively covers that area of the driveway well, so here are three pictures of me at 36 feet, 60 feet, and 96 feet. (screenshots from the video recording)

That is so true. It's really important to chose the correct focal length for each situation. There is no perfect "one size fits all" camera. I like a variety--not only in focal lengths, but features and even differing mounting heights. The Color4K-X and Color4K-T cameras are great for...

I am taking the leap to the 10/28 firmware (upload in progress) on this B54PRO-Z4E cam. I know my way around it , since I have it loaded on my T54PRO-ZE, so I'll let you know what differences I see between the two cams. Last night was foggy, so no worthy captures to post here today, but tonight...

Would appreciate guidance on camera install locations

I have a Color4K-T180 camera both in front and behind my house. I think they work great. I grabbed a few clips here for you to see. In front of the house the camera's lights are off--only a single streetlight for illumination. This was during a wind storm this week, so sorry for the loud wind...

You make many great points. A person needs to ask himself, “Do I want a pretty picture or a useful picture?” I’ll opt for the useful picture every time. Sure, it would be nice to have everything perfect, but I’ll take the occasional blown out highlight if it means the subject is properly exposed...

Yes, I have been running the 10/28 beta firmware from Andy on the T54PRO-ZE, but I figured I would try to optimize this 8/27 firmware before I make a switch. Good point on the dynamic range. I tried your suggestion of HLC=1 on the T54PRO-ZE, and it seemed to help a bit. I feel sad for that guy...

Ok, I think I have the camera dialed in fairly well for daylight. This is just before sunset (golden hour) when shadows are usually a challenge. To highlight how well this camera is doing, I think it might be helpful to compare it to some other cameras. The sun is setting in the west, so this...

Ha ha, well I think you will pleasantly surprised once you receive it. Last night I was frustrated because I couldn't make it gather as much light as the B54IR-Z4E that it replaced. Tried every setting imaginable. After experimenting during the daylight this morning and afternoon, I am beginning...

I've been trying out different settings today to see which have the best effect on the image. Right now, the shadows are at their worst, so this is what I found to be optimal during this time of day (screenshot): Brightness=50, Contrast=58, Saturation=50, Sharpness=44, Gamma=40. For the exposure...

Not much happened overnight during the first test of the camera, but some raccoons decided to take a stroll. On the B54IR camera, I have found that a 0-8.33ms setting for the shutter works best for that dark area of the driveway, so that is the setting I made for the B54PRO. Again, as with the...

I received delivery of a B54PRO-Z4E today and quickly put it up before the sun set. It is replacing a B54IR-Z4E S3 to monitor the end of my driveway. I have three cameras that I use for the driveway, a PTZ5A4M-25X, a 6mm Color4K-X, and this new one. I used the same settings on the new camera...

That looks great! I have been struggling all night to force the T54PRO-ZE into color. It just won't do it, yet my three Color 4K-X cameras, Color4K-T, and ColorT180 have no problem at all just with the streetlight and no other added illumination at that placement. I have noticed some interesting...

All good points. These are just settings to start with. Since the cars zoom down this street about 35-40mph, I am more interested in how the camera sees at night, but I will change a few things to try to make the daytime picture better. Eventually this camera will be placed as an overview for my...

I just finished loading the new 10/28/25 Beta software on the 54PRO. Here is the first clip. It's going to be fun seeing the changes in the software tonight. My initial settings for day: H.264.H @ 15fps, 12,288 bit rate, AAC, 64,000 sampling rate. Manual Mode, Shutter 0-3, Gain 0-20, Iris 35...

So confused on firmware for IPC-COLOR4K-X ?

I think the 2.8mm is a wise choice. It lets in more light than the 3.6mm and 6mm. The sharpness of the 6mm at its focal point is probably better than any camera I own. There is something alluring about the 6mm--reminds me a lot of the Canon EF 135mm L lens for DSLR. Where I use the 6mm, I don't...

    IPC-Color4K-T

Yeah, that camera is incredible in low-light situations. When I checked my cameras this morning, I found this video of a guy wandering down my driveway at 1:28am. The Color4K cam picked him up well in the dim light, and as an added bonus, I set up a tripline to set off a dog growling noise if...

Problem with night mode and IVS

I’d agree that you should try to use AI by camera rather than by recorder. Only one instance where I have found AI by recorder helpful, and that is when using the Color4k-T180 camera. IVS using the camera’s AI has accurate detection only in the center. Detection to the sides is non existent...

Have you tried altering the gamma setting? After switching to the 8/27 firmware, I found the gamma setting to have quite an effect upon the image--more than on the 5442, for example.

Less sharpness in T54PRO-ZE (versus 5442-S3) possibly due to noise reduction being applied even if set to ZERO?

Really enjoying reading your test results. Glad to know I wasn't going crazy, while trying to figure out the T54PRO-ZE. Just for fun, I am working on making a mounting plate and using a backup NVR to do a test with four cameras I have lying around and unused: 5442T-ZE, 5442TM-AS, T54PRO-ZE, and...

    Worlds First Review - Dahua DH-IPC-HDW5849H-ASE-LED / IPC-Color4K-T - 2.8mm Turret

I haven't had a problem with the close focus distance, especially if it is adequately illuminated. You should be fine. Here is an example of a 4K-X (6mm) camera that I was setting up, and someone walked 7 feet in front of it. (The 4K-X in 6mm is notorious for not being in focus until 25'+.) He...

By any chance are the new motion-sensing porch lights directional? I would think that aiming them at the ceiling would give you a nice diffused light, similar to a photography umbrella.

Less sharpness in T54PRO-ZE (versus 5442-S3) possibly due to noise reduction being applied even if set to ZERO?

Exactly the same thing I am finding in comparing the 54PRO to the 5442. The image of the 54PRO looks like it has Saran plastic wrap covering the lens. Slightly distorted, washed out colors, lack of sharpness edge to edge. I took mine down and replaced it until there is a firmware improvement...

Yes, you can run H.264. I have found H.264.H to be better and tested it by zooming into a speed limit sign on my street. In one of bigredfish' posts he said, "Use h.264.h for the best quality and least problems," so I have kept my settings at that since then.

Interesting that you mention the bit rate. When I first installed the 54PRO, I wanted to see if there was a noticeable difference when switching between compression and bit rates. I always use H.264.H and about 12288 for the bit rate. The 54PRO is the first camera that I ever seen the huge...
