    Money & Economics

Money withdrawn from a traditional IRA is taxed as ordinary income, regardless of what it might be (capital gain, for instance). The thing to watch out for, if getting social security and under the maximum social security taxation of 85%, AND in the 12% marginal tax bracket, is whatever you...

    Current shipping methods to EU

My summary of the above: Dumb government BS. Possibly coming to the US depending on how the tariff stuff settles down, if it ever does.

Except you copied the current bracket chart. The 2026 chart is further down on the page. I got caught by the same thing, the headline says "new" brackets then the first thing they show is the old/current brackets.

    Funny / Satire

When debating at my former job the number of people vs. schedule for a project, a common statement was that if we put nine women on it, we could produce a baby in a month.

    Windows 10 EOS (22H2) Oct. 14, 2025

I put myself through a crash course of remote desktop on Linux today, then set up Remmina on the laptop to RDP into the BI machine. It not only works a well as RDP from windows, but connects a lot faster. I'm out of reasons to not migrate BI to Linux. Would sure save a lot of headaches caused...

T54PRO-ZE wiring harness - lots of wires - believe 12V power OUT is new (and probably on other 2025 cams)

The spec for that 12 volt power output is 2 watts max, meant to power an external microphone. The IR illuminators tend to start at 4 watts.

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Thanks Steve. I had finally figured this out yesterday, and would have sooner but for how the UI behaves and how I make assumptions. On the UI, when I turned off the AccuPick switch, the IVS switch got grayed out, leading me to assume that AccuPick has to be on to use IVS. I finally got past...

    Windows 10 EOS (22H2) Oct. 14, 2025

I totally agree and support this. I have realized one big problem: Some users of headless BI systems use windows Remote Desktop to access the BI system. Would there be a way to accomplish the same thing with BI running on Linux?

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Another interesting to me comparison. There are same-time images from a side-by-side 5442 S2 and 54PRO, in twilight. In this case, the 54PRO (on the right) looks like the clear winner. In bright sunlight the images are virtually identical. I don't have a clue what's behind the 5442's...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

While everybody else is focusing on the picture quality, my main interest is reliable animal detection without a lot of false positives. I don't have the animal bottom line yet, but am disappointed in false positives and less than stellar human detection. A windstorm went through in the last...

Traffic lights with four colors and a new white light are coming, and they will change the way we drive forever

This is nice having an audience rant to.... I see over and over where these smart traffic-actuated signals retard traffic movement to the greatest extent. This happens when the traffic volume is in-between light and heavy. I'll be coming up to an intersection where it will turn red in my...

    Moving from BI to Protect?

Pretty close to my experience. I tried using CPAI and ended up with an unstable system that had to be rebooted every few days. Since eliminating CPAI I've not had to reboot even once. I'm one of the minority who has a high priority on animal detection, and while CPAI cut down the false...

Traffic lights with four colors and a new white light are coming, and they will change the way we drive forever

Do you mean the yellow coming on a few seconds before the red-to-green change? I grew up when that was the norm.

Traffic lights with four colors and a new white light are coming, and they will change the way we drive forever

Wow, 1,161 pages, and I couldn't find any standard for the rainbow crosswalk. :idk: Another rant of mine is roundabouts, especially the 2-lane type. Oregon has roundabout fever, and being such a progressive state it seems to me they don't consider the "green" aspect of every single car having...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

They're not thumbnails, rather screenshots off of smartPSS. Can't get the trigger lines displayed on BI. I doubt it, since I can't find where it's done, grayed-out or not. Where is this setting found? (I admit to being a master of not seeing what's right in front of me).

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I'm finding the human detection of the 54PRO to be not-so-hot, very lame compared to the 5442 S2 that it's mounted next to. Here are 2 examples of somebody walking right through a tripwire with no trigger (both were caught by the 5442): Yet it did a good detection at the very edge of...

Traffic lights with four colors and a new white light are coming, and they will change the way we drive forever

The lights are already confusing as heck. Some intersections have left turn green arrows, others have "protected" left turns on green with no arrow. A driver who doesn't know the green is protected sits there when he should go. After being taught he should make the left turn on green he comes...

    US Elections (& Politics) :)

Well good for you! (sarcasm) The station closest to me just reduced from $4.16 to $3.99. The closest Costco is $3.49. One of the many benefits of living in a totally blue state.

    Microphone ?

I sense several areas of confusion in this thread. When you say the splitters say 48 volts, this is most likely their input voltage, which is standard POE voltage. (It's "nominal" 48 volts, and has an allowed range of several volts). You need to be concerned with its output voltage, which is...

Video outlining lots of reasons to avoid win 11. It's unfortunately 25 minutes long, and I'm posting it here for anybody who is interested. I don't have a dog in the fight, being a Win 7 and Linux user. Windows 11 Is a Lost Cause. Truly Destined for the Garbage. Don't Upgrade from 10

    Money & Economics

There's a good counter argument to eliminating a coin just because it costs more to make than its face value. That argument is that the coin is very durable and will be used over and over thousands of times, and its value in facilitating transactions far overshadows the cost of producing it.

web interface ui timeout = 0 setting?

I clear cookies whenever I get mad at too many targeted ads, suggestions based on browsing history, and so forth. By that time there are cookies from at least 500 sites. Time-wise, maybe once a month on average.

I couldn't get to this until late today, and I think I've got it. Can't be 100% until the next daytime image because there isn't any light in the camera view. I wish you didn't have to take so much time walking me through this, and pass back a big thank you. I admit I struggle with a lot of...

Managed PoE switches randomly lose port power/signals

At 5.6 watts per port you're clearly well under the 250 watt maximum. Being a managed switch I assume it will tell you how much power each port is putting out. Maybe this info could provide a hint?

Managed PoE switches randomly lose port power/signals

The only thing that I can think of is if your were exceeding the 250 watt total power spec.
