OMG Thermal!

Up until a month ago they were all over EBay heavily discounted.

Ah well, only those two I can find which I guess would work for sampling thermal imaging, they are in the £120-150 range on ebay. Can probably work with 13mm but 7.5mm or wider would be more ideal.

Distance is really the benefit for me using thermal. I should be able to see close in targets with my standard cameras.

Indeed, I think shall probably pickup a 13mm and a 7.5mm, see how they work out for me, for an average of £120 each they can't be bad. Maybe make more sense to get the DH-TPC-BF5421-T in 13mm, assuming it is the newer and better camera, when compared to the BF2221-HTM

I have a couple of spots with hedgerows and shrub/tree growth which these should work well for, all out of range for normal cameras.

Whole most here know I am a big fan of optical zoom, for a thermal cam a 13mm may be too much unless your distance is way out there.

The 4mm sees so far and you won't get IDENTIFY quality regardless, so I would rather get a bigger picture.

Is there such a thing as Identify on a Thermal?

Yes, 7.5 to 13mm is not an ideal range, I suspect these would get mounted 16 feet up on the roofline looking down and out but even then still quite a narrow field of view. I guess the old for £100 vs £300 for the latest model was and is tempting. Some more research required I guess.

Yes. If it looks like a large tiger, it's a housecat. If it looks like a large moose, it's a deer. If it hops like a rabbit, it's a rabbit. You get to learn this after a while.

If its red hot with demon looking eyes, flapping it's arms all around, jumping up and down, it is my Ex-Wife LMAO...

Yep I’m aware.
I see some still on there using various OEM names, but nothing like before.
Can you share a few links...thanks...

I didn’t specifically see thermals, just a few obvious Dahua cams.

I just searched dahua thermal ip camera

Thanks, just figured I would look, only ones showing up for me were a few used Axis Thermal Bullets...

So, I have a wife too :(, lol, no I am actually happy she is my Probation/Parole Officer, she keeps me in line ;)

$400+ for one of these, of course I got the third degree. WHY? "We already have a camera"...haha, honey we have several cameras...

But wittaj is RIGHT, everyone needs one of these...they are great...

Here is how my wife warmed up to it, get it lol. Now, every time before she lets our dogs out she checks the Thermal to see what critters are out there because sure enough our 1 year old Boxer will chase them and it is pitch black out here in the Woods. We even had to get reflective collars for our two dogs which our high beam flashlight can find them. BTW, the Flashlight Rocks, we bought 2 for ourselves and have given them to family as well

That latest video I upped is spotting deer at about 200-250 feet from the Thermal CAM. Now since we have seen so many critters, we are able to identify what animal it is by their movement which is pretty kewl. Deer, dogs, cats, skunks, squirrels, armadillos, all have signature movements. When we first saw an armadillo on the Thermal, it was jumping up with its front legs and thrusting down burying its nose in the ground going after grubs. I had to go outside to see what was doing this, lol.

Even though the Thermal still works, when foggy dew sets in, this is what you see:
The white dot is a rabbit...

Non-camera junkies will never understand....

Wifey: What the hell have you been doing for the last 3 hours?
Me: Installing this new really cool camera hun
Wifey: oh, so whats so special about it?
Me; Look here's the first test clip
Wifey: So you're telling me you spent $500 and 3 hours installing it to be able to detect dog shit?
Me: ahhh but it’s able to detect “fresh” dog shit
What would be great is if there were a script that marked the location of the hot steaming piles and added them onto a map for the kids to go out and pick up. As they pick it up, they can use an iPad to drag the doo-doo to a trashcan on the map so we know it's all picked up before we mow!

Really neat. I have a pond and creek at the back of the property, would be cool to see what is walking around.
