Dahua 5442/T54IR vs the rest

Thank you kindly, being lazy I know, normally I am good and research! you got me thinking about the bullets now though  - I mean technically I could replace the turrets with bullets, since they are on the front of the house and approximately 12 feet up the turrets do look slightly less obnoxious! do have one on the roofline though where the power would be useful. I will swap out a couple of the existing 2MP starlights with the 5442 S3, then try one of the 54Pro's on the roofline with the LED's on and see how that works out. The other 54Pro I plan to use on the front door which will also cover the driveway and throw some ambient which will cross over slightly with the roofline camera, this will be a trial to see how colour works. Seems to me that the 54Pro series have reasonably bright LED's. Be nice to ID cars in colour at night when required, on the one hand I don't miss street lights, on the other hand they would be useful for the cameras!

The more I read on the main thread, the more I'm tempted to cancel the 5442's and switch for these Pro's if not dispatched yet! flexibility of essentially having a security light and IR camera if you want, built in one unit. On a side note, I wonder why they chose warm LED's and not 'daylight' or cool?!? seems an odd choice to me.

Currently I have 2x 54Pro ZE coming and 2x 5442 S3, maybe the wise choice would have been 2x 54Pro ZE, 1x 54Pro AS and 1x 5442 S3, the latter for comparison purposes. Mostly they will be used in 2.8mm wide anyway, there is normally a tendency for the fixed focal length to be a touch sharper. Of course having spot focus on the ZE models can be useful in some instances.

Yesterday I installed one of Andy's IPC-B541R-S3 and it turned out to be better than I thought at night in that location. It replaced the $1200 Axios which I was not really happy about and considering the cost. When it gets dark I can see through the front window of the house across the street and see the banister railing on the stairs. I have never seen that before. If you look at the area with the naked eye it is pitch black.

Fixed it for 'ya @Parley .... ;-)

I have to say that the specifications on the 3449PRO look pretty good.
Is this thing on Andy's site? Does it have a different model number?

3449Pro was up until recently a fixed lens only. Mine is 3.6mm
Andys part is: 4M-T

The VF version of the 3449Pro just came out along with the 54PRO (5x59 series)
The Andy part number for the new 3449Pro VF; is 4M-TZ

IPC-Color4M-T
IPC-Color4M-TL
IPC-Color4M-TZ
IPC-Color4M-XL
IPC-Color8M-TL

I can do some "rocket science" things and fill out tax forms, but I sure can't make any sense out of these model numbers!

Yeah, I'd rather see some useful names like IPC-Crappy, IPC-Fair, IPC-Good, IPC-Better, and IPC-Excellent. Now that tells me something without having to get out the damn encyclopedia to figure stuff out. :banghead:

The 4M-T is the new 3449 Pro, but is there a mapping of what all the above map to? Which one is the 54Pro?

And the older 4k-t has a 1/1.2 sensor, but these newer ones have 1/1.8, so technically isn’t that, while older, better for low light given the bigger sensor? Software helps, but hardware wins there.

You're getting confused by the Dahua to Andy translation

4M-T is and has always been the 1/1.8" 4MP 3449H-AS-PV-PRO

4K-T is and always has been the 1/1.2" 8MP 5849H-ASE-LED white light only camera

I liked it more when they had 5442 somewhere in the name, at least then I knew life would be good regardless of what came before or after :lmao: - joking aside I'm learning more each day with these new camera models, mostly thanks to the knowledgeable folks on here such as @bigredfish, @looney2ns, @wittaj and others :thumb:

Getting off track a bit here, but how much better is the warm lighting on the IPC-Color4K-T 8MP cameras vs the turrets, 2 LED vs 4 LED and about 3-4watts difference it appears? normally I would prefer bullets for this reason but turrets look a bit less imposing!

@EMPIRETECANDY

Andy PLEASE...
Change names of your Color4M/8M cams to our unified system.

34PRO, 38PRO
24WHITE (or 24COLOR)...

No-one understands actual messs with Color4M/8M...

PS. If you must use Color4M names due FCC registration, please use dual names in Your shop (like 'T34PRO-AS / Color4M-T' and 'T34PRO-ZE / Color4M-TZ'). This way You could unify also other older models with strange names...

Agreed. Love Andy and his fine products... But the naming system is nonsensical. This is a much better idea.
