The main argument on this Government shutdown is over the Obamacare (ACA) subsidies that expire 12/31

I wonder how many actually know what they're rooting for ? I have a feeling its a pretty low number from what I'm seeing from uneducated Republicans on social media

This is more of an IQ test than anything...



- Republicans passed the BBBI (Big Bullshit Bill for Idiots) without extending ACA Subsidies, that are set to expire 12/31
This isnt about continuing Obamacare, it’s about continuing the offsetting cost subsidies. Basically on the ACA you get a discount on a health plan (subsidy) based on your income.
22 Million people (those not on Medicare or employer based healthcare) buy insurance through the ACA Marketplace.

  • Without these subsidies, the middle of the road Silver plan for example say Mrs bigredfish who is not yet eligible for Medicare, and has no employer paid health plan, would basically double, going from about $800 p/mo to $1400-$1600+ p/mo
  • For a family of 3 or 4 the numbers are even more staggering. And this is all before the actual plan price increases of 18%-20% coming anyway (Ins companies are saying double digits)
For example, a 60-year-old couple making $85,000, or 402% of the federal poverty level, would see their yearly premium payments rise by over $22,600 next year, on average, after accounting for the loss of enhanced credits and insurers’ rate increases, KFF found.

- The ACA already does NOT allow illegal immigrants to buy health plans. It aint that

Note I’m not saying the Dems are clean, I’m simply saying that the key issue of ACA subsidies is not being presented truthfully by the Trump administration or Republican grifters

Republicans and Trump needed this shutdown for a variety of reasons. From the Economy to Epstein to Gaza to their own spending plans to the imminent wars in Venezuela and Iran.

My take is that the purpose of the subsidies is to continue covering up how obamacare has totally ruined the healthcare system. All of the added bureaucrats, the insurers, and big pharma are being taxpayer subsidized, and the dems want to keep this hidden.

No disagreement there.

But the current fight has nothing to do with canceling or changing Obamacare/ACA.
Neither side is proposing that.

Though I would argue that blaming medical costs solely on Obamacare is more talking point than reality. It’s a boiled down red meat battle cry by Republicans because they know the details and problem is far bigger and too complex for the avg Joe who would have to spend more than 30 seconds researching a subject instead of reciting a headline.

And it’s not just Democrats by any stretch of the imagination.

So, why not fix it! Trump claimed the republicans were close to having a comprehensive healthcare plan many times... The republicans are in power now... where is their healthcare plan? Non-existent because they are not interested in providing affordable healthcare to average Americans... The wealthy can afford all the healthcare they need/want... the republican focus is to make cuts to the existing system anyway they can, not to reduce debt, but to reduce taxes on the wealthy.... or maybe I'm wrong and there's a better explanation for why the republicans do not have a healthcare plan. :idk:

No need to convince me that republicans are bad. I think they're a little bit less bad than the dems, but they're all members of the uniparty. The uniparty has 2 teams to keep everybody distracted while they fleece the sheep.

The thing is with most MAGA, if it were called TrumpCare they'd die fighting for it. But because its referred to as "Obamacare" it must be evil

Most people who have actually done the math and studied it for 30 minutes will find its hard to make it better without you paying more.. I'd be willing to bet 7-8 out of 10 here have no clue what it even is or how it works,.
The cost on 3 people I know have it is very close to what they would pay with normal employer shared insurance.

At the end of the day the ACA allows relatively affordable coverage, including pre-existing conditions, and subsidies based on your income.

Why are Trump and Mike little dick Johnson all of a sudden in the past 24 hours coming out and saying its a problem? Because
A- they've been caught in the lie that Dems want to give illegals free health care
and
B- They're trying to cut the budget for essential services like ACA while they piss away your money and can fund the MIC in Argentina, Israel, Ukraine, $40 million per week to the Taliban, and elsewhere.

I don’t speak for the Dems, and Mike Johnson is a lowlife pond scum lying fuck, but by passing this and punting on the offsetting subsidies, one has to trust Republicans would actually pass separate legislation to fund it in about 8 weeks.
And it’s becoming obvious to even my house plants that they have no intention of doing so.

On previous CRs there was no urgency because the subsidies didn’t expire until 12/31/2025

We’ve been played by the Republicans. The Dems caught them this time

I hope the Obamacare subsidies end. The Republic was not founded on providing "healthcare" to a certain segment of the population while taxing another segment to pay for it. Shame on anyone who believes this is just. Sounds like they should move to Canaduh or Planet Europe. I'd rather the focus be on cutting the cost of healthcare which is a fleecing of Americans by so many who have their hand in the cookie jar.
