Basically title of this thread - can I use a WD Gold drive (instead of a WD Purple) in any NVR that records 24/7 surveillance video?

I don't see why not. I have a mix of WD Red, WD Red white label, WD Purple, Seagate Exos in various 8TB, 12TB, 10TB, 14TB in my Dahua and Hikvision NVRs

There was a time when the interface was/might be different on an Enterprise drive. But a quick google search shows a SATA interface. Server/enterprise were not concerned about noise, that might be your only condsideration.
Their UltraStar Data Center drives appear to be in available in SAS and SATA interfaces.

The purple drive is advertised to be optimized for surveillance use. Unless somebody here has some inside knowledge, none of us know squat about what that means, or what difference it makes. All we have is user experience. Mine is that I've been running a white label drive for a couple of years with no problems encountered.
