Version 6 Beta

Assuming the beta is a reasonable prediction of what a real V6 will looks like, could somebody give a short big picture report of what it looks like and does compared to V5? What big differences will an "ordinary" user see?
There are not any noticeable differences between 5.9.9.98 and the 5.9.9.99 beta versions.

on the subject of the thumbnails, mine are large (the image of the thumbnails on the left.. .the clip list, not the clip length. The ones I see here are smaller...I thought there used to be a way to select the size, but I can't find it now. Anyone know?
To answer my own question (or Ken did:)... CTL-Click the thumbs and scroll mouse wheel to change size.

So is anybody running 5.9.9.99 having issues with thumbnails? I've been running this for about 12 hours and have notice that some of my thumbnails are not showing. The weird thing is that this doesn't happen all the time and the issue is only occurring on my LPR cameras.

YES, I was getting this too on just some cameras. I found that the cameras that had black thunbs had this unchecked....I thought I had that checked on all of my cams before?

Interesting... I checked the two cameras that I was having the issue with and both of them are configured identically to yours. What do your encoder options look like?

Ken just updated the V6beta file (detected by a change in the file size).

You can direct download it here:

I've also posted it to the forum's Downloads folder as 5.9.9.99-v6beta2a
The reason for naming it V6besta2a instead of V6beta3 is that it was the second file updated on 11/10.

Ken did freshen the changelog PDF in this iteration - see below.

NEW Changelog entries - highlights are Ken's

5.9.9.99 is the version 6 public beta and will not appear as an automatic update. You may find it on the Check for News and Updates window under "Other available versions." As occasional revisions will be made to this single version number, watch for date changes to stay current.

[5.9.9.99 r1] – 2025-11-10 ... I believe this is what I've name V6beta2a

Added
• N/A

Fixed
• Potential misclassification of all H.265 frames as key frames from some streams, causing playback corruption.

Changed
• Encoding configurations for H.264, H.265, via software, QSV, or NVENC have all been refactored

[5.9.9.99] – 2025-11-06

Added
• H.265 re-encoded output option

Fixed
• N/A

Changed
• Updated to new build environment, latest encoder/decoder versions
• H.264/H.265 hardware encoding/decoding for both Nvidia and Intel; some stream incompatibilities have been observed with Nvidia, and this is being evaluated.

Regarding Ken's changelog.pdf item in the red text above, I believe this is what he is referring to...

Hopefully we see a UI3 & app refresh. I've been holding off on switching to Protect this reason. Not sure of the logistics of it tho, UI3 is a separate project from what I remember but something close to Protect would be welcomed.

Has anyone notes the latest beta has a GPU memory leak, at first I thought it was one of my new modules

The below version looks to fix the GPU memory leak.

Hi. I'm the sole UI3 developer. I have no plans to do a new interface or a major redesign of UI3. UI3 is a hobby project for me and I'm quite happy with its current state, for the most part. Besides, major changes tend to require changes in the Blue Iris server, which I do not and never have had any more access to than any other customer.

As for the Blue Iris local console, I wouldn't expect any major changes there either. The GUI changes for v6 are mostly done already since 5.9.9.8x as far as I know, and consist mainly of color scheme changes. (same for UI3; it has some color scheme changes that will appear when the Blue Iris version ticks up to 6, and can be previewed via UI Settings > General Settings > Color Theme)

Blue Iris has been essentially a one-man project for its entire 25 year existence and he doesn't have the resources to to major redesigns every few years like Ubiquiti does.

H.265 playback in UI3 may be coming soon, but that is not exactly a feature worth sticking around for. If you're interested in the design and features of Unifi Protect, get Unifi Protect.

The reason for naming it V6betaR2 is to mirror Ken's version nomenclature in the changelog.pdf.

Ken did freshen the changelog PDF in this iteration (see below). The highlighting is mine.

[5.9.9.99 r2] – 2025-11-11
