Good example of what looks like 2 identical revolvers, yet there are significant differences .. one is dangerous to fire, the other appears ok

That would be good for teaching someone to shoot that you have little confidence in to keep the barrel pointed down range. Many folks use a single shot rifle to teach kids. This would be a good one for that purpose.

I have a G2 that has been rock solid for many rounds and abuse during various classes

But then again the MCX Spear has so many choices... decisions decisions

This is coming from Sig Swiss right? What about that HK MR556 A4 they came out with?!
 
The HK is a just a wee bit pricier ;) , but very nice. But really the 516 is close to a knock off. Short stroke piston and runs cleaner than just about any AR you can name.
I was amazed how clean it ran (my G2) with 1500 rounds over a 3 day course two weeks after I got it. Very low maintenance
